Infiniti G20 random idle issue

First off, i couldn't find a specific g20 thread so here we go.

i start my car in the garage then i pull out and start driving. the problem occurs only when i fully stopped (red light or stop sign) and while i am in drive. the car (sometimes, not all the time) starts to have idle problems and almost dies on me. i have never let it die on me because when it starts to do this i put the car in neutral and it stops immediately. when in neutral, it doesnt matter if im on the brake or not it stops right away and returns to a normal idle. for me normal idle is about 600-900 rpms. when i put it back into drive after being in neutral, the car kinda "pulses" or "throbs" like while your on a wooden roller coaster going up the ride. then when i get into 2 gear there is no problem and everything is smooth. if i give it good gas after putting it back into drive, it goes by fairly quickly, otherwise it like i mentioned above, a wooden roller coaster. when i drive for a while and it really starts to warm up, the problem becomes more rare, but it has happened twice after the car fully warmed up. it will not do this when going 1 mph, only when fully stopped.

i changed the oil last week (it was regular timing) and i changed the spark plugs today to try to fix this problem with no luck. it has been progressively getting worse for about 3 weeks now. there were no issue with changing the oil or changing the plugs, and there are no other issues with the car whatsoever!

its a 95 g20 btw. any advise?

I moved this to the G20 forum, it's under the Sentra/G20/NX..

Does the car do this everytime you drive it or is it somewhat intermittent? that might help determine if it's electrical (intermittent) or something else.. Have you checked the ECU codes? While that doesn't tell the whole story, it's a good place to start looking for clues.

it does it everytime i first start driving, while it still is warming up (about the first 30 min of driving). i also cannot go to an autozone and get the codes checked, its too old and they cant do it. its a 95. also to be honest with you im not even sure what ECU stands for and i have no idea what that is.

ok well im having trouble finding the ecu and having trouble finding the "diagnostic mode selector switch, located on side of ECU". also, next to the steering wheel, to the right, there is a little sticker that says "on-board diagnostic (generic scan tool) connector is located on the passenger side". what does this mean? i do not see any screw you can turn according to the link???

The screw is on the side directly OPPOSITE of the big blue harness connector.

ok i was just being stupid, i had to remove a screw to get the panel out of the way. the panel is on the passenger side where the person's left foot would be, here is the website i used for the instructions: http://www.g20.net/forum/showthread.php ... -Reset-ECU

ok the code was 34, knock sensor. what is that, what does it do?

on another website, http://www.fixya.com/cars/t3012015-1994 ... stop_light, some guy was told to check the trans kick down sensor. what or where is this sensor?
