A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Hello, could someone tell me the cheapest way to hook my iPod up to my 2000 Infiniti G20t? Using the radio transmitter is lame so I'd like to wire it in. I don't care if my trunk CD changer gets disconnected. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

There's no AUX input on the stock unit, so you'll have to get an aftermarket head unit with an aux input (or, even better, iPod control unit, but those are usually more expensive).

I have an aftermarket h/u with an AUX input, and I can't say I've used it. Admittedly, I don't own any MP3 player of any kind, but that's more the result of the fact that I also made sure the h/u had a USB input, so I can play tracks right off a USB stick. It's incredibly convenient.

Is the Bose stock unit. I heard of adapters that plug into the CD changer plug that makes the unit think the iPod is a CD changer. I found some for $100. Does anyone know of any cheaper ones or another way to wire it in?

Should be a cheaper way to do it - heck, even the dealer aux input cable for my 2004 BMW was only $30 and easily snaps into the CD changer plug and works fine. Sometimes the more expensive products that give fuller control over the iPod tend to have shortcomings in terms of consistent audio quality. As you probably know, Bose doesn't actually make head units, so your best bet is to read the sticker on the metal case and decipher if it is a Clarion, Matsuhiuisi (Panasonic), etc., and then determine if that is AUX-able. Year 2000 may be a bit too early. The cost justification for upgrading to a newer head unit is that you can get Bluetooth at the same time.

Thank you for the information. This is something that is being sold on eBay. I just don't think I want to pay that much!

Yes, doesn't look worth that much, and for less than that you could get a new low-power Sony h/u with aux-in that might be acceptably compatible with the proprietary Bose amplified speaker design.Even on later Nissans, adding an aux-in seems to be complex. See:

Just live with what you have until the factory unit bites the dust?

Yes, thank you for the tips. I bought one of those tape-deck hookups on eBay so I'll try that when I get it. The radio thing just isn't working for me. It's not loud enough and there are just too many radio stations in Northeast Ohio. There really is not a frequency that is not occupied somewhere in Northeast Ohio, where I travel around frequently. I even have a high quality transmitter, the Belkin Tunecast II. Hopefully the tape kit works out.
