Infiniti EX35 will have more rear legroom ... for 2010 (Interesting article)

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Infiniti plans updates for 2010 EX crossoverPosted Mon Oct 13 2008 9:16 AM by James Martinez2009 Infiniti EXPoor sales of current EX have prompted Infiniti to update the model after just one year

Infiniti is updating its EX luxury crossover less than a year out from its original launch in response to customer criticism that it lacks rear-passenger space. The vehicle’s striking design and already generous standard equipment list were not enough to woo customers who tended to buy more expensive rivals despite the EX in most cases offering better value.

Infiniti will now add more rear-seat legroom as well as launch a new marketing strategy that will promote the vehicle as a worthy alternative to a sedan and other crossovers. Consultations with the dealer network are being undertaken to figure out the best way to pitch the EX to a greater number of people, rather than the EX's original target of couples and singles seeking a crossover.

Since the vehicle was launched last year Infiniti has racked up just 10,289 sales – well short of the estimated 20,000-plus Infiniti was hoping for, reports Automotive News.

Infiniti had targeted the vehicle at single people, especially women. However, it found that most of the customers interested in it were families seeking space for their children in the back. Other midsize crossovers such as the Acura RDX feature more rear leg-room. The Acura RDX has around 9 inches more leg room than the EX, while the Lincoln MKX has over 10 inches more.

Additionally, Infiniti plans to add its ‘Around View Monitor’ feature to more EX trim packages. Previously the advanced camera system was only available on the upper level packages for the EX, but will now come standard.

Infiniti’s North American vice president of product planning stated that while sales were not as high as Infiniti had hoped, the changes planned for the EX should turn this situation around.

Yea, I suppose you have to change something about it... after all, it is 2 years in the making.

Was there ever a 2009 EX35 ? Didn't it just go from 2008 to 2010, skipping 2009

If I wanted something bigger, I would have bought a Van instead.

When I went for my 1st maintenance 2 weeks ago my salesman did mention this. He said all they are doing is making the curve on the backside of the front seat deeper. IDK it sounds like this will add 2-3 inches the most and I dont see them moving the backseat either as that might sacrifice more of the already small-ish cargo.

Mmmm... that makes sense, then.

It would have been harder to understand that Infiniti would make a whole new Car, just to stretch it 2-3 inches longer.

I like the article, but hell if I wanted something bigger, I would of bought another car. I didnt want anything bigger. It has to also fit in the garage. All new houses on the west coast come with a small garage. Something like 20X20 is max. My last house was 18X18. That is small for a regular SUV.

Sales are down for every car, because of the economy, you tell me who is going to spend over $40K on a car when they are afraid of losing their job, house, etc.

Sales are down mostly because of the economy and most people don't know about the EX35. I have never seen a commeriacal about it, nor one on the raod. I found this car out on Edmunds. Most car buyers don't even research online, let alone what edmunds is.

It doesnt help, when you go to an Inifiniti lot and no EX's are to be found. They are pushing the FX's. So there are many reasons why Inifiniti are not sellign these cars.

Do you know that I had to go to three different dealers to find on on the lot.

Keep in mind that there will be no rebates for one year on the 2010 models. To me it is not worth the money just for some extra leg room and a standard lux package.

BTW: Does anyone know how much leg room you will get? Maybe 2 inches per year as the cars come out for an exatra $1,750 with no cash rebate.

I will pass, that is why I ran out to buy an 08 to save $11,000 off of MSRP. Sweet deal!!!!
