That's right. All Infiniti dealerships HAVE TO honor the warranty on parts purchased from Infiniti of Scottsdale, Grubbs Infiniti or Pinnacle Nissan/Infiniti.

I had my car at Major Infiniti in Kansas City, MO, last week. The quotes on the power steering hoses were high and they told me that I could order whatever parts I wanted from wherever I wanted. (pretty awesome huh!) I ordered the P/S hoses from Joe at Infiniti of Scottsdale and saved $180.

When I called Dave Grooms, my service consultant, about shipping Scottsdale parts to him, he said that was fine. Then I asked him about warranty on these parts and he said he wasn't sure about the policy on it so he would get back to me. I called about a half-hour later and he asked me to confirm that these were bought through an authorized Infiniti dealer and are OEM parts. After that was confirmed, he said the dealership would warranty the parts and that all dealership have to warranty them.

So the next time you go to a dealer to get work done and their price quotes are too high, order your parts from one of the "Big 3". If they give you a hard time about not honoring the warranty, tell them to read the back of their service contracts under "what we will cover:" :D

p.s. Major Infiniti has gotten sooooo much better now. The old service guy I used to have to deal with has left and Dave Grooms is awesome to work with. I highly recommend them! :thumbup

Very few oem replacement parts fail in the 12 month 12k period unless installed improperly, then the part is not covered.

The wishy washy areas are putting a new alternator on a defective/weak battery [especially a non Nissan one] or putting a new fuel pump in a dirty tank full of trash.Plus the usual escape clause due to accidents or external damage.

The tech may care since he might be on a bonus vs parts sold same with service writer and service manager since the whole dealership profit depends on doubling their parts cost vs retail sale price.

They don't have to install your parts, just if they do they carry the factory parts warranty not the dealer warranty of labor. The clock starts the day the parts were shipped/purchased from a dealer.

DAVE GROOMS? you are one lucky guy to be able to go to your service department and have DAVE GROOMS help, and the key word here is HELP you! Dave used to be my service advisor at Nationwide Infiniti in Baltimore! Hands down, the best guy to work at ANY Infiniti service department in the 10plus years I have been driving Infiniti`s! Nationwide has not found a suitable replacement yet!He is the main reason I continued to use their service department, and his successors are the main reason I have branched out in search of a competent, honest independant!

Dennis,

If the part is installed improperly, then it would be the fault of the dealership...they would then cover it under the 12mo/12k warranty.

And they DO carry the dealer warranty of labor. On the back of the service contracts Infiniti prints out and you sign it says,

"WHAT IS COVERED: NISSAN warrants all replacement parts and accessories supplied by Nissan for use on Infiniti vehicles that it distributes...The warranty is for 12 months or 12,000 miles from the date of service, whichever occurs first...If the part or accessory was installed by an authorized Infiniti dealer, it will be removed and installed after repair at no charge for parts and labor."

I'm glad to hear he comes so highly recommended. I will be using him for anything I need from the dealer.

So, if for a DIYer a part failed, and you could prove at a dealer that the part was installed properly, would they still recognize the warranty (probably not, stupid question?)

They would not honor the warranty. It has to be installed by a Nissan or Infiniti dealership for improper install to be covered. Now if the part failed because it was defective, Infiniti would warranty the part but you would have to either install it yourself or pay to have it installed.

This is one reason that going to a dealer can be advantageous. I was skeptical about going to the dealer at first, but now that I know I can get my parts wherever I want, it makes it a lot more appealing on very technical things.

Nick

p.s. Dave would also let me bring in aftermarket parts if I wanted, though they would not be covered.

Wes,

It would be really hard to prove that it failed because of defectiveness. That's why DIY is sometimes not a great thing. When you DIY, you take a risk. That is why T3 charges $70/hr. Some of the cost goes toward coverage for the warranties they offer. Sometimes, a warranty is worth the extra $$$. But sometimes, in the case of your plenum, you can save a ton of money by doing it yourself.

I really like my local Honda dealer part service. The guy at that place matches the price on anything I print out from the any website. Sometime he did even charge me for shipping. I did tried the same tactic at my local Infiniti dealer and they said "No way in hell":D

T3 chages $90 an hour if you bring your own parts [or $1,000 per day], because the other $20 is necessary to partial make up for what we lose in profit per hour, less what we gain by not having to warranty your parts. We reserve the right to refuse parts which look unsuitable [non oem] or excessively used to protect our customers from themselves. {you should see some of the junkyard junk they bring in.....bent and rusty worn out pieces}.

Dealerships roughly double their parts cost, we only get to mark them up to retail [which is a 25-30% markup].

Inet members/purchasers pay roughly what we do for parts on somethings we get a 5% better deal.

Dealers average around $180-$200* per hour [parts and labor] on the average ticket whereas we are lucky to get $145-$150.T3 actually pays more than area dealers in salary and benefits/health care because we can't afford to have trainees on the insurance.........everybody has to be an expert.

More expensive in parts of US: CA, Manhattan, etc.
