How would you feel if one of the most anxiously awaited automotive arrivals in recent history were just swiped from your showroom floor? Infiniti dealers are reacting to Carlos Ghosn’s announcement last week that the GT-R, the latest iteration of the company’s Skyline sports car designed for total global consumption, would be sold in the U.S. with a Nissan hood ornament. Ghosn cited the fact that brand's North American operations couldn’t prove the Infiniti emblem on the GT-R’s hood would generate more sales or profits.

Infiniti sales were down a sharp 9 percent in the first quarter of the year and dealers were hoping the GT-R would fill out the brand’s narrow lineup (four cars, two SUVs), as well as be a halo vehicle around which the company could rally. All is not lost, however, as the redesigned G35 sedan that debuted at the NY auto show last week was received very well by the press.

Maybe it is time to drop the pretentious BS and admit that an Infiniti is a $5.00 badge away from being a Nissan. The G35 would still be an awesome car with "Nissan" across it's ***. It works in Japan. Toyota could cop to that Lexus crap too and Honda drop the Acura foolishness. An S2000 is still incapable of getting past my T as Honda, I doubt the name change boosts power.

imo the heritage of the gt-r and nissan badge's going together is much more important than selling more cars because of it

if they want more sales that bad they should open nissan dealers to go along with their infiniti places

If the Skyline become a Infinite, I'll puke right on the show room floor at the nearest dealership when it arrives. The Skyline is the heart of Nissan and to deny it the logo is wrong in every and i mean EVERY sense of the word.

The Skyline IS an Infiniti. The GT-R won't be.

If Infiniti wants a halo vehicle, they should drop the "G35" crap and call it the Skyline.

problem is, the gt-r IS a skyline, so you couldnt have the high end model of the same car under a different brand

I'd just rip off the Infiniti badge and replace it with the Nissan badge.

Carlos Ghosn is an idiot for even thinking about placing this car under the infiniti brand. Despite the fact that Nissan=Infiniti, It just seemed wrong. At least he changed his mind...

I agree that it needs to be a Nissan. But to me, the argument for it being an Infiniti is the quality of service at a higher end dealership. I would think people dishing out that much cash for a car would rather drive up to an Infiniti dealer to have it serviced than a Nissan one. But thats just my opinion.

While you are correct on this one, not since the debut of the GT-R in 1969 with the 4dr KPGC10 has a GT-R not been a Skyline. The next one will be the first time that Nissan has separated the two cars from each other. I think of it as somewhat a bold move on Nissan's part, but hopefully it will work.

Yeah, there was a press statement a while back that also said "officially" that it'd carry the Infiniti badge. Guess they changed their minds.

It's The Nissan GT-RNot Infiniti GT-R

if it was an infiniti you yould call it the Infiniti G35 GT-RSounds like a damn BMW or something..... I prefer names to a seemingly random mix of numbers and letters. (I know it's not random but for the sake of those wh odon't get what this alpha-numeric business is)

Nissan GT-R < Nissan Skyline GT-RyetNissan GT-R < Infiniti GT-R << Infiniti G35 GT-R

Infiniti should change the name fro mG35 to skyline, and people would be like OH!

I mean, if mazda can go from miata to mx-5 Infiniti can go the same way.

(Or are alphanumerics supposed to be "luxurious")

It doesn't matter guys! It's not even going to be a straight 6. Pluse it's going to run in the $70k's to $80k's, prices at which most of us cannot afford! Nissan USA is just trying to exploit us by bringing that rediculously expensive car here, while the FED gov't is laughing. I would much rather have a cheaper R33 or R32 GTR for a lot less money! Thank you again Uncle Sam!

Wow, people sure talk a lot of shxt on this car considering:

A.) It isn't even out yet, and final specs haven't been released

B.) It will likely be a $60-70k (R34 Nur was like $60k) car with a 450hp twin-turbo V6, electrically-assisted turbos and ATTESA AWD. It will be the bargain of the century, relatively speaking. Remember, it's not like the last few GT-R's were $30k or anything like that, they've always been a lot more expensive than an Evo or an STI.

C.) Who cares if it's a straight 6 or not? What are people on about with this, the engine noise? Is it seriously that important? Heritage? Who cares! You want a Prince badge and a manual choke too?

Okay Mr. Moderator. You save your nickles and dimes to purchase the over-priced hunk of metal, and I'll spend magnitudes less for an r32 that will out-perform it

It may work in the USA since the Skyline and Skyline GT-R don't have a "history" in this country. It'll be interesting to see how it goes over in Japan.

Welcome aboard, DRCZ.

It's Infiniti, and Infiniti has ALWAYS been about performance.

The G35 is a solid a performer as the Z (actually handles and brakes better). The early Q45 was a hot rod. The M45 is a wicked beast, more performance than anything Nissan's building currently...

I see where you're going, and I kinda agree, but unfortunately it ain't that simple.

Infiniti should have the GT-R AWD and Nissan should have a turbo-version of the RWD Z. That would be more appropriate, IMO

Doubtful. That wouldn't make as much sense now that the GTR is a model unto itself, rather than a trim designation. We've yet to hear whether there will be more than one trim level for the GTR itself, though.
