But if you live in AZ and go into IOS I wonder what price they charge you, proabbly the same high mark-up. They make a reasonable profit and get customer that they woudl never be able to get with the mail order businesss, but I bet they charge high retail if you're a walk in.
As for older cars, dealerships live off service, but the problem with the older cars is people are not willing to pay high retail for service, we find other places to take them for less money and better service, and so over time the cars see less and less of the dealership. This happened with my 97' which I serviced at the dealership for the first 3 years, especially when they had the great deals on the oil changes, but now I cannot remember the last time I was there. With no warranty to maintain, you find places that can do the basics for way less and have more senior guys working on it too.
Let's all be thankful that IOS exists, I know I have bought a decent amout of stuff from them and will continue to do so.
