I went to start car this morning, turned key to start and nothing....tried again and started right away, figured starter relay may be failing at 208,000 miles.

Not wanting to wait for shipment from IOS, I dashed in to local dealer and paid $33 plus tax for a part that has a Infiniti suggested retail price of $21, and IOS price of $15.99

Wow,local dealer marks UP parts cost by 50%, Joe marks DOWN by 25%, and the newbies wonder why we love doing business with Joe and his gang?

Same thing here with the stealership. I don't even try them. I've got a 3rd car so I can wait on the shipment. If you really need it they can overnight.

The stealership has to cover their overhead costs somehow. Yours must be on some expensive land and those ornate showrooms don't get built for free. Joe and his crew must be working out of a tin warehouse with no air conditioning.

Yes, unfortunatly dealer is in the most expensive part of the county,however you would think charging Infinitis suggested retail price would be sufficient to cover costs....It was good to chat with the owner,who sold me both the Q,and the G himself {his wife used to work for me} we talked for awhile about how badly we need a new Q to hit the market.He said they only sold 1 2006 q45 TOTAL!

I'm really hoping that Infiniti decides to reinstate the Q as the flagship model in 2010. 20th Anniversary.

I'm having a grand time imagining the new styling. Perhaps something based on the G50, but slightly "modernized"? I wish.

That's because they ruined the looks of it IMO. (I'm not trying to start a flame war. If you like it that's fine it's just not my preference.) As far as the stealership trying to cover overhead, I just think my dealership isn't interested in selling parts or doing repairs on older Infinitis. They want to sell "new" cars. Joe and his guys are probably moving a higher volume of parts which allows them to have lower prices. Does that make Joe the Wal-Mart of Infiniti Parts Departments?

No, they are housed in one of those new modern Infiniti dealerships. Same consortium owns two more and a Lexus dealership in same area.

Pretty pathetic that the Infiniti dealer is less than 1 mile from home, and I order 99.9% of my parts from an Infiniti dealer thousands of miles from home due to local dealer price gouging{every part that I have checked is marked up 50% OVER suggested retail}

Such is the life of the elite Q owner.

But when that Q is purring along the way it should and smoking anything outside of spectacular on the street, you find that it's all worth it.

But if you live in AZ and go into IOS I wonder what price they charge you, proabbly the same high mark-up. They make a reasonable profit and get customer that they woudl never be able to get with the mail order businesss, but I bet they charge high retail if you're a walk in.

As for older cars, dealerships live off service, but the problem with the older cars is people are not willing to pay high retail for service, we find other places to take them for less money and better service, and so over time the cars see less and less of the dealership. This happened with my 97' which I serviced at the dealership for the first 3 years, especially when they had the great deals on the oil changes, but now I cannot remember the last time I was there. With no warranty to maintain, you find places that can do the basics for way less and have more senior guys working on it too.

Let's all be thankful that IOS exists, I know I have bought a decent amout of stuff from them and will continue to do so.
