Infiniti has the 2016 Navigation update on sale for $99 through December 31st, 2015. It's normally $149 and I've seen them run this promotion typically in the month of June. I just noticed that today the ordering site was automatically inputting another promo code waiving the $3.95 shipping fee as well.

Is this just a new street map? Or is it all new updated software programming for the entire radio/navigation/status/info/CD/music/etc. system?

reminder to call the dealer to see what they charge for installing this. its usually around an hour of labor which makes this not worth it.

The '11 is a self install unit. I will do mine in the garage.

Just a new street map, it doesn't update any of the software in the car.

I was under the impression that all M's 08 and up utilized a HDD which meant self updating was no longer possible?

Correct on the first point.

2011 was the first year they went back to self-installs due to people complaining I guess from what I recall reading on other forums. I also updated my 2011 to the 2015 map last winter. When I did it, it took around 2hrs.

I might hop on this and save the $50.

Biggest waste of money. Just throw $99 in the garbage instead and save yourself 2 hours of install time. I undated my 2012 M37 and did not notice a single change.

Depends on how often you travel. They usually add POI's and new developments yearly. More than likely you're not visiting every restaurant in the world and you're not hitting up every new development...thus, it wasn't worth it for you. But for those who do road trips in the car to different cities/states, it's definitely useful. Then again, most people could just use their phone in that case.

In Okc the new I40 relocation has thrown off many maps. My 2015 Chevy map was still outdated. I'm hoping this will have the new I40 in it

My original 2003 M45 does not have navigation (I did not spring for the package! :))

So, I use a Magellan 3597LMT unit ... this is absolutely an awesome navigation unit, albeit far more clumsy since it is not built-in. Has a 800 x 480 5" color touch display that is a beaut to behold and use. Completely voice-command driven, which makes it very easy to use.

It comes with life-time free map updates for the US. So, just about every 3 to 4 months, I plug it into my laptop, download the latest maps and all is well! I use it for travel too ... will pay for itself soon enough avoiding the daily fees that the car rental guys charge!

I also sprung for a set of Europe road maps (cost is $99) one time, since I rent and drive there occasionally, and now I don't have to pay the very high navigation rental fees there either. This is most useful, since I am not familiar with the roads there as much, of course!

One time, the Hertz person at London's Heathrow saw my unit, sighed and threw in their navigation for free for the day I had the car (it was a built-in unit in a Merc that I was given and he couldn't turn it off anyway, I suspect, but would have charged me for it otherwise!). That was good! :yesnod

I have a 14 Q70 and a 15 QX70, I noted the map model number is the same. Will I have to buy 2 maps with different activation codes or can I use the same code on each car. Thanks.

I believe you'll need two as they are ordered based on your unit ID.

It took about three days for the DVD update kit to arrive.

Image

Overall the installation went really smooth and it took a little over two hours total to run all 5 DVDs. i previously had the 2011 edition and there were alot of destinations at least in Minnesota that my car could not locate. After successfully installing 2016 upgrade, my Navigation has found all the locations it couldnt before.

Here is what you look forward to find coming out of the exhaust for having the car idling the whole time.

Its 21 degrees Farenheit in Minnesota at the moment.

Damn 50 degrees would be really nice right now. I thought about running it off the battery but i didnt want to risk draining the battery. It's really stupid that you cant turn the car on and off to charge the battery during the upgrade process.

Lol after the 2nd DVD i got bored and ran into the house and did laundry

Does anyone know where Infiniti gets there map info from, such as google or what not. I wonder if they have the new plaza that went up near me recently. I know google has the plaza available.

Do you have an address? Myself or maybe someone else who has done the 2016 upgrade can verify

Yes, it took me a good 2 hours. You have to leave the car running the entire time.

Yep, had to keep it running. I ended up driving 30 minutes and then going to Red Robin for lunch the day I did it. Beauty of a smart key fob...I can take the fob with me inside while the car is locked outside. I ran out once or twice to change discs and by the time I was leaving Red Robin it was done lol.

Yep I had my car running the whole time, I wasnt even sure if we were allowed to even drive around with it during the update process.

looking back, I wonder if we could have just hooked up a battery tender to maintain a charge without running the engine?
