Okay, before someone says anything about this - I already did a search and read everything I could find on the topic. I just got a 91 240SX - the non-fastback version. It's in good shape with about 140K on it. I seem to have the infamous timing belt ticking noise. I have a question about that though. I notice some people talk about the fact that it happens to them when they rev the engine (at higher rpms) while some talk about it happening when it idles. Mine seems to be the lower rpm version - does the difference in the two hold any significance ? I'll most likely get it looked at sometime soon, but I'm hoping it will last until I get some money to get it worked on.
Second - my water temp gauge is acting screwy. It works fine until I hit the accelerator. Then it falls all the way down to cold and sometimes shakes around a bit. When I slow to a stop, it returns to normal. Any clue on that ? Would the sending unit really be affected by the accelerator or speed ? I'm pretty sure my cooling system isn't THAT good (it immediately jumps to full cold). Also, whereabout is that sensor ? I read the threads talking about the two different ones (one to the ECU and one to the gauge), but no one ever answered the only guy who asked where the specific locations of them were. The only thing I've found is "follow the upper radiator hose" but didn't say which sensor that was.
