J owners are most likely aware of the rust spot that develops on the bottom left side of the car at the weld point. I got a quote of $400 to put new metal in there. Sound reasonable? Guess I could get a couple more quotes but this guy is a connection through my tech.

The "spot" is about the size of the palm of my hand and has, alas, rusted through. I want to keep the J for another 100k so I better get on this before this rust spreads like a southern CA wildfire this winter.

I was on the road when the spot became a problem and my wife took the J to a dealership as it was still under warranty. They gave her the run around and when I got back from my travels the 7 years had elasped.:(

I'm not sure where exactly you are talking about. I am interested since I just touched up a couple of spots on mine. A picture would be nice.

Underneath on the left side down near the rocker panel past the passenger door where the two pices of body sheet metal join. I've seen quite a few J's with rust in that spot. Hopefully, you lucked out and got a superior weld. Seems like the guy who was doing that work on the line overheated the metal and compromised the rust proofing.
