The needle being stuck is either a bad sensor or its VERY low on coolant.

Maybe if you took the time to compose a well written, spell checked post,we would take the time to intelligently answer it?

Writing and spelling like an un-educated clown gets clown responses.

I did take it to the dealer, This is what i get from him " the car suppost to do that, if it moves it means the engin is over heating" so i just want to proof him that its wrong and get it fixed. I only have 30 days warranty so after that he woudnt fix it. i'm so sorry about the 1st post.

On a '99 it should point straight up when warmed up properly. Here's a picture off of a cars.com ad.

Maybe the thermostat has been removed? It needs to be checked with Consult (Nissan's diagnostic computer) to get a real temperature reading. The car should have two temperature sensors (at least the 90-96 does) - one to tell the ECU what's going on and one for the instrument cluster. So even if the sensor or cluster is bad, Consult should be able to tell if the temp. is really that low, or if it's something else. Another clue will be the idle speed... if it idles high when you first start it up, and then idles down to about 700RPM after warming up, there's a good chance that the car is warming up, and the problem is with the sensor, it's wiring, or the instrument cluster.

The other option is to get a copy of your FSM (Factory Service Manual) and follow the troubleshooting steps yourself. It should tell you how to test the sensor using a multimeter... There's a copy on NICO here somewhere, but I can never remember the location. Even better... pay $20 to go to http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti for the one day viewing subscription and download the FSM and all of the technical service bulletins (TSBs) which are basically factory authored fixes for issues that are discovered in the field after the car is in service. The owner's mauals are availabe at no charge there as well... so it may be addressed there if you just need proof that it should move into the normal range.

Good luck!

Do you have an Infiniti dealership there? If so your backup plan could be to have them diagnose the issue and then have the car lot you bought it from pay to repair it. Again, I would look at the owner's manual to see if the correct operation is stated there...

It may not be on purpose. Although English is widely spoken in Montreal, writing it is a different thing altogether. My cousin and I had an interesting conversation about the differences in being able to speak the language but having trouble writing it.

But anyways,

Take it back until he fixes it. How long has the needle not moved? I haven't been up to Montreal this winter, but I hear from my family up there that they actually closed school. That means it was a hell of a lot of snow and low temps. Maybe the car is taking longer to warm up than it does down here?

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Q4...l.pdf

Take a look at pages 128-130 in the EL section of the 1999 FSM. Most likely it's a harness that needs to be replaced if the needle isn't moving at all.

BTW, where at in Montreal are you?

When I was driving home from Christmas in the Tennessee mountains, it was 6*F outside and it took the car 2 hours of driving to stay mid-way. Most of the time the needle laid down and took a nap though. It got normal when I got into 20*F air.

Looks like a thermostat stuck open or no thermostat ?

When everything is as it should be the engine will warm up rapidly, and the temp gauge will rise to the proper mark no matter what the outside temp is, within reason of course. 6 degrees F,, although a brrrrrrr factor should not slow down the warm-up process that much.

You could also have a problem with the temp sending unit/sensor ?

Have you noticed an increase in gas consumption ?

On a 90-96 a no indication on inside gauge only means it is sensing below 120F................just as max hot is around 220F............only ~~ 100F dynamic range.

Always use a Consult to fequently check the accuracy of the interior gauge/sensor/wiring.
