i have a 1991 nissan fairlady z32 (300zx) n/a. so far the only performance mod ive made is a cat back exhaust system. i was wondering if anyone knew of some inexpesnive ways i could increase my horsepower (and by inexpensive i mean under 500 bucks). i was thinking of completing my exhaust system with headers, downpipe, and then after that intake but im stumped as to what to do next. my friends keep telling me turbos but im on a tight budget right now and cant afford to blow over a thousand dollars on my car. i want to give my car a little more push without putting a whole in my wallet, what should i do?!

Don't buy parts here and there. Develop a plan with a goal and then buy the parts that would get you to that goal.

If you are going to swap for the turbo, don't even invest time and money into the NA motor. You will just be throwing most of it away and you will never be able to get it back.

Nitrous is actually a good option for you, your just looking for cheap horsepower, through in a nitrous kit, alot of people bag on nitrous because of the fast and the furious movies and such. Though its look past alot it is easy and cheap horsepower.

a plan sounds like a good idea. what ive done so far is universal but i dont plan on swapping the engine it might be cheaper just to get the stock turbo's and collect everything else seperatley.

as far as nitrous goes, my engine has about 160,000 miles on it so i dont thing nitrous would be a good idea, i dont think nitrous is a good idea period, seeing as it ruins your engine overtime anyways.

Well if you are incinuating what I think you are, putting turbos with a wrong amount of boost is more dangerous than nitrous is with stock NA internals. I have been around this issue since I heard about the TT model back when I picked up my Z.

I also pose a question, and maybe it should be in a different post, but I have heard you can boost an NA engine to 13:1 compression, meaning low boosting. Pointless, maybe, but possible?

In any case be careful with low budget high demand, never a good combo to force

Nitrous is safe if done properly and moederately, the Z32 N/A should be able to handle a 100 wet shot and maybe 75 dry, if you want all out with direct port and electronic controller you coud put 200 to it but thats risky at your milage, you're nont gonna find much hp for $500 on an N/A without NO2, either get it on the juice or save up for a turbo car or a turbo swap

you will only get mild notices w/ full headers, downpipe, cat-back...thats what i had on my n/a minus the downpipes and i could tell a little more throttle response but it was all in the upper end of the rpm band.

yea but the thing about nitrous is that your horsepower is not always garunteed its only gonna be there when your tanks are full and you press the button. turbos is a constant powerboost that is not gonna run out. also i dont need to run at to high of a psi to get good performance out of my turbos when my stock pistons have a 10:1 compression ratio, so its not like im going to blow up or anything. but i'll have to put alot of nitrous in my car to get a good amount of performance for a good amount of time. plus i will have to keep buying more nitrous everytime i run out. i wouldnt want my boost to be expendable you know? i think turbos would be the most cost effective way in the end.

I think they have a Z1 power pack for N/A's on Z1motorsports.com. I think it has catback, JWT pop charger, and the Z1 motorsports ECU. You could try that. Also, along with above said items, maybe a pully set from unorthodox, RPS flyweel, and maybe a light drive shaft.

I have done that i have the cat back with pop charger and amz drive shaft.the biggest difference maker is the drive shaft. you can feel more on the launch..everything else is at high rpm.....do the TT swapp. if you do any mods. only do stuff you can carry over to the tt engine. like cat back and suspension..
