Indiana is now one of the few states that has implemented the use of VASCAR speed detecting devices. VASCAR is an acronym for "video average speed calculator and recorder." This is completely undetectable by any radar detection unit and the market and is absolutely impossible to detect in any way.

VASCAR uses points of references and times to calculate average speed across a certain distance. Police flip a switch when you pass something like a phone poll and flip it off when you pass another distiguishable point of reference. The officer then must travel the distance himself to get a correct distance measurement and speed calculation.

As far as I know this is only being used by State troopers on Indiana Highways because of its expense and how much active involvement it requires of the police officer. Just a little information.

No problem, only speed in the dark with your lights off.

When I first saw this, I thought is said "Indian Drivers". I was offended.

we have had this in maryland for years-what those white stripes are there for all over our highways.the stripes are painted a known distance apart, and officers time how long it takes a car to cross them, then vascar computes speed by time vs distance calculation-very very simple device

Wow! And I was up to 140 MPH friday heading north on I69 (blew away a grand cherokee wanting to toy with me)! Gonna have to watch it a little I guess or like Jeff said, hammer it in the dark!

Running Bare doesn't get me any free lunches, so I use my "Christian" name.

I am 1/8 Sioux. Born & raised in the Dakota territory. I have been thinking about going on the warpath, and reclaiming my people's homeland. How would scalps look hanging from my antenna?

We encountered alot of those while driving cross country to Reno from Arkansas. On the middle-of-nowhere-flat straights of hiway, all you have to do is watch the sky for planes, and you will be all good!
