Indexing Spark Plugs?

This is the first time i have heard about it today from a post in another forum. So what i got from it is that you face the spark plug a certain way to create the combustion more toward a certain valve. Sorry it sounds bad because i don't really know what i'm talking about. Can someone help clarify this?

The concept is to have the opening of the plug facing towards the middle of the combustion chamber. Old Hot Rodders used to do this by marking the outside of the plugs, and going through several sets to get a set that had the "fire side" of the plug facing the middle. Give today's twin and quad tip, there's no need.

It's an overkill concept for a daily driver.
