Hi,

New, proud owner of a 1992 Q45 - and new member of NICO. The car has 102Kmiles, no winters, and is about as perfect as I've seen a 17-year old car . . . at least on the surface!! But unable to tell if timing chain guides were changed - no record of it in service records, so likely not done. I'm considering doing it myself, but would like to consider the option of having a competent mechanic do the work. (I'm competent only part of the time!)

Question: Does anyone know of a good Infiniti shop in the New England area? Vanmeter's in NJ has been recommended but that's about 7 hours away.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am not a shop but I am very good with Q45's exterior/interior and engine. So if you need any help (Besides the chain guides) email me and I will give you my number.

Welcome to NICO

Take your Q45 to Prime Infiniti in Hanover, MA. The mechanic there are very competent and worked on several Q45's. Infiniti of Norwood is decent too...but have created somewhat of a reputation of being sloopy and inconsistent---because they're move of a volume dealership for the south of Boston area.

Paul,

Thanks for the offers of help.

I've decided to not trust my mechanic skills, and contacted Keith Vanmeter in NJ. The car is in NJ right now, only about 20 miles away fom his shop, so I'm going to let Keith do his magic - probably will have the fuel and coolant lines under the intake done at the same time - then the valve cover gaskets, etc. etc. But, at least I'll know it's all been done correctly, and right now, I've got two other cars that need my more critical attention!! Hmmm . . . can you ever have too many cars??

Thanks again and I'll keep you posted on the progress of this old beauty (the car!!).

Keith is by far your best option. There are very few Senior Technicians (trained on the G50 in 1989) left. Later ones, no matter how experienced, are lost on the VH45DE. Timiing chain guides are seldom replaced by dealers.
