Incredibly stiff brake pedal...

Well, recently I have noticed that my brake pedal is unusually stiff. It has maybe an inch or so of travel, and then it feels like I am pushing on a wall. I have searched for symptoms for a bad booster, but the majority of the problems were bad M/C.The car stops fine however it is difficult to get the brakes to lock. Sometimes at slower speeds, like typical parking lot driving, with the pedal fully depressed the car does not want to stop, rather eases to a stop. If that makes any sense. I am inclined to believe the booster is going out however second opinions are greatly appreciated.And lastly, if this is indeed the case, is there an alternate booster I should look into? I have been looking into the S13 manual transmission version as well as the Z32 unit.
