I hear rumors that the SX vert is considered rare and is already increasing in value. True or just rumor?

The value of a car is purely dependent of the price someone is willing to pay.It would be hard to say weather or not its value is worth any significant amount more but it sounds logical, these cars are over 10 years old.

my 89 coupe increased in value, its book value last year was $989 and this year its like $1130book value is based on what they actually are going for in the market place and it does fluctuate. Sure the drifting thing helped, but affordable convertibles nearly always start to steady out their resale values... look at celica verts and miatas and the like. Still go for a few thousand even though their hardtop siblings are selling for pennies on the dollar.

I would tend to think that are increasing in demand.

More people are on the 240sx bandwagon. RWD is becoming more and more popular. our 'verts are not easy to find in decent condition.

If you have a nice one or can restore it to nice condition, I would think you would get some appreciation out of it.

Heck maybe when the new FF3 movie comes out the demand for "drifters" will really drive up our values. Perhaps that's a good time to sell and buy that Supra I've been dreaming about. lol

supras are crappy drift cars.. the time to do that was before the first fast and furious, which drove TT prices from 20k to 30k or so.

Exactly!!! I don't drift. I just want a super fast sexy car.

Now that TT's are starting to come down in price a bit they are a little more reasonable.

Now with FF3 and the whole drift craze coming on.. my 240 will bring the most money soon.

Hence my comment about selling my 240 and buying the Supra of my dreams.

I'm not sure about these cars increasing in value - maybe if they're kept in nice shape, in about 20 years or so, they might be worth something. In '99 I bought a '92 with 103k for $5,500 and last month bought a '93 with 100k for $3,500. Both cars are in real nice shape (aside from the shifting issue and cloudy back window). I love them and refuse to part with them, but I'm just not sure they should be bought for investment purposes. They're not that rare yet or that high in demand.

I agree that they should not be purchased for pure investment purpose. They are by no means collectable yet.

However, I would venture to say that they will not see much depreciation any longer unless they are beat on.

Plus, if you've done a little work to it and it's sharp and stands out.. you might be able to soon find a zealous drifter wanna be all high on FF3 to pay you more for it than it's really worth.

You're absolutely right - the bottom line is that the car is worth what someone is willing to pay.
