Usually a low idle is due to an excessively dirty intake path, starting at the throttle body.

How about a little maintenance history of the intake path and fuel system?

Welcome to NICO!!!

First, I agree with Brian. What is the car actually idling at? if it idles smooth around 650 then thats the money zone.. A little lower never hurt either. you might look into cleaning the MAF, IAC and TB for starters. That can be done in an hour in an afternoon with a 6 pack...

hi and thank you , are there any instructions(online) on how to clean the items mentioned ? The car idles smoothly at 600, however , in city traffic (when the engine is hot) the car stalls when it is at a standstill . The dealer told me that the complete injection system had to be replaced ($4000.00) . The dealer plugged the car into their diagnostic machine ($300 fee) . I am mystified; how can a car can run so smoothly and have such incredible power yet the dealer says it needs a complete replacement of all the components of the fuel injection system . The car only has 61,000 miles on it and it has been taken care of .

Please supply the mainteneace history. How often are filters and fluids changed? BG44K? Always Tier 1 premium fuel? No noise from the trunk? What is the fuel pressure?

We need answers to help, not generalized statements.

Bah! The trouble is that very few Infiniti dealers have a tech who knows anything about the early Qs. Do two things: First, check out the MAF. It may just be dirty. Here are some instructions:

http://www.q45.org/maf.html

That's free and easy. Then get a BG intake fogging, about $200.

http://www.bgfindashop.com/locator/index.php

Buy a can of BG 44K and run it through a tankful. Go from there. You do NOT need to spend thousands to fix this particular problem.

honestly I think you're looking at something MAF related. I still want to have fuel pressure checked since we have no reference data on when or if the fuel pump was replaced. Please check that in your service records..

First thing to check on the MAF is wiggle the connector and see if you can get it to stall. If you can, then take the connector off, clean it up real good and make sure its making good contact.

No offense, but i think those intake foggings are a waste of money. You cannot clean a dirty intake on the car, and thats a FACT..
