I have not been on this forum for quite sometime.
Basics....1996 Q45..Totally maintained by Infiniti until they screwed up...Now under good care by local and excellent general auto service company (Hans Art Service, San Francisco)...New Plenum work with Infiniti parts/package from Scottsdale....New rack...New Blue Struts...BG Trans service...Complete flushing every 6 months..of everything..157,000 miles....new knockers/sensors/headlights/almost everything......Needs new paint job, that's coming up.......NOW is there anyway to increase the power on this MACHINE???? I know it is rated @ 276 hp,, but can something be done by my men to crank out MORE?? Without failing CA smog tests???? Unfortunately small/ dash lights are going out.
Thanks in advance......Alexander

adding 20 horsepower on a 4000+ pound car will produce minimal to almost no felt increase in power.....save your $$$$

Thanks for the good advice. I'll put that $500.00 toward the new paint job.

Depending how often you want some extra power, you can always use nitrous! Q's run very rich at WOT, so running 50-75hp shot should be no problem without additional fuel enrichment. What is great, if you run premium fuel is that you can keep stock timing and it does not effect your emissions at all (when not using it). Even a small shot will make a huge difference in performance as nitrous makes the engine rev much faster than normal. I put a 20-30hp shot on my Nissan truck and it went from a 17.2 seconds in the quarter mile to a 15.7.

Depends on how it affects the throttle response. It could make the car feel a lot more fun to drive, even if the actual numbers don't improve much.

One has to remember that the JDM VH41DE has the spider intake manifold like the VH45DE and better flowing exhaust headers.

Good to someone from the 415 in the house. They are all unfortunately right, there are just not alot of options out there for these cars. This is not a Chevy Camaro with a huge performance parts bin.

Just get it tuned up, paint it so it looks nice and save for your next car. These cars had the power in their day but in todays market a Toyota Camry can give you a good run for you money. Save up for that M56 or something well north of 300 ponies for your next ride and enjoy driving a car that hardly anybody has a clue what the heck it is........my 2nd Gen runs totally stealth these days in the Bay, and we have more Q's than most parts of the country.
