Has anyone taken their m35 to hyper tech and got tuned for better gas mileage and more hp? Did you need to change to k&n filter, or install air intake?

Regardless of any other comments about the tuning experience with hyper tech, I should mention that Nissan / Infiniti engines, which use hot-wire mass air-flow measurement, are not happy with oiled K&N air filters in the long run.

Regardless of what the K&N folks (and some others who swear by them :yesnod) will say, over time, the micro-drops of oil that enter the air intake - no matter how "dry" your oiled filter seems - will deposit and coat the hot-wire sensors and lead to poor performance from our engines.

Just change your standard air filter often enough - like every 12k to 15k miles - and you will stay happier in the long run. :)

don't know about hyper tech but uprev seems to be the tuner of choice.

as for the k&n comment, we have several "debate" about that on here so a quick search will help you learn.

note - you want to add bolt on parts before do a tune, for instance exhaust (cat back or headers back which means you will need to change your HFC and Y-Pipe) then work on reduce heat by installing a thermal spacer between your intake manifold and the block itself. For intake, not a lot of people here go aftermarket and again, search to see why. After all that you should tune your car either by eTune or dyno Tune. good luck and report back what you end up doing.

not yet - i still haven't install the hfc and the after market y pipe so once those go in, i will tune. another thing is money seems a little tight these days so i have to time it right.

well you go for uprev E-tune?

I think i will do it by my self through the uprev e-tune... since we have a lack of AWD dynos here!

will see, going etune required you to have the cable. which is a good tool to have as well but since i already have the torque app and the bluetooth OBD II connector, i kinda don't want to spend more money. so you see, it all boils down to money. but if you're going etune, keep me and forum posted with your outcomes.

I've got an extensive list of mods and with the Uprev tune, last dyno numbers at the wheels were:
whp: 282 @ 6408 rpm
wTq: 255 @ 4693 rpm

I'm still able to maintain good mpg. Also with my tune, I have 5 sets of programs (drive by wire selections) sport, normal, valet, security, economy -- if I want spirited driving, I select sport tune...if I want economy, then I'm good on the gas

I don't have a long commute -- less than a mile -- so my tune and short commute is VERY beneficial during these days with gas prices.... :frown:

Re: K & N air filters - I was told by my ASE mechanic that these cars have a "wire" across the air intake that the computer reads to determine the fuel/air mixture. As oil droplets from the filters accumulate on this wire over time, it gives the computer a false reading. I took mine out and replaced with standard Infiniti filters. IMHP :)
