what RPM does the KA24DE engine idle at? mines at about 850 or 900, and the engine makes this kind of clunking sound, like as if its shaking to turn off or stall, but the second i rev to exactly above 1000 RPM the sound stops, so im thinking of adjusting my throttle to make it idle at 1000 should i??

if the a/c is on, it'll be a little over or at 1000 rpms. i think normal idle should be around 700 or 800 rpms.

you could move it to 1k, but you'll ruin your mileage.

My 240 was ideling at 2500 for awhile because I couldn't figure out wtf the problem was. I tried the idle control, timing, everything. Imagine the mileage I got on that, muahaha. It ended up being my throttle cable being on too tight.

I m having the oppisite problem. I removed my timing guides last week and set the timing back at 750. The distributor is all the way back and hasnt moved since then, but now i'm ideling at 1050 and my mileage went down the tubes. What could cause that?

setting timing and setting idle are very different things. Your crappy mileage can be from different things. First of all, what's your timing set to, which guides did you remove, what car, year, and engine is this in reference to etc.

I removed the timing chain guides from my KA24DE on my 92 240. While I was in I went ahead and did some other stuff too.

*New plugs (double platnum)*new distributor cap*new Rotor-button*new fuel filter*new pickup (broke during install, major problems figuring out what it was)

I forgot to mark the distributor for the timing before I started. But i had a light so I set it at the end right on.I was ideling at 750. A week later my ide has gone up progressivly to 1050 (AC off), and my mileage has gone down, I'm talking like 15. Before I started all this work I was getting 23 in town.

Now the idle is back down to 800 but the mileage is still crappy. Go figure. I'm gonna go and pick up some new wires to go with the plugs. Also I checked the throttle cable and it sems to be really smooth. Outside of all that, I'm stumped. What could make my fuel economy go down so much?

Those double platinums Bosch by any chance?

The mileage can also go to a fecal fling match with a busted coolant temp sensor, a dirty mafs, or an off calibration tps.

I suspect the plugs though. If they're Bosch multiplatinum tipped plugs, you're probably mashing on the pedal a bit more to make the car go the same way it would have before if they weren't junky plugs.

No the plugs are Autolite double platinum. The idle has stuck right around the 850 range for a few days now. And I got 19 to my last tank, so who knows.

awesome glad to see it's stabilized. I'm curious as to what it was. Bosch multiplatinum plugs are teh feces imo.

Yeah the record at my local parts shops and from many other board members that tried them before (unfortunately I am included in this list) and they weren't worth taking a dump on. Seriously. Just don't seem to work well with Nissans. If you've got just a plain jane engine, put on some NGK coppers and be done with it. NGK plugs are what Nissan packs OEM.

well if they're workin then why dump more cash? If they're giving you hell then yeah I'd get some regular ol' ngk coppers.
