i have a 2011 Altima coupe 2.5s w the cvt and was wondering if anyone was having the same problem. the car has 1500 miles on it and nismo exhaust installed by the dealer. i noticed sometimes while accelerating from a stop and reversing it sometimes it tends to go into a limp mode, where i can be putting the pedal to the floor and the car is just going really struggling to go, but once it hit the higher rpm it goes back to normal, but the the problem does happen from time to time, ive only had the car for 2 months and this has happened within the past month. Usually turning the car on and off does the trick. does it have anything to do with the VDC bc i know if it senses the car slipping it does what it thinks is right.

You're expecting us to diagnose a transmission issue that only 1 other person has experienced and does not seem too worried about it. You are covered under warranty. TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND GET THEM TO FIX IT, don't blame us. We can only help if we have come across the issue before and have fixed it.

As for being a common issue, I have not really heard about it while reading the forums on here. This is not normal.

there are a few people who have encountered this problem. but as stated above, your best bet is to take it to the dealership if you think its something major. For me and two other people i know with coupes, its doesn't happen that often. However last year when I was dorming and would leave on the weekend after having my car parked all week, it would always have this lag at the same stoplight. Aside from that, I came close to hitting a dog, slammed on my breaks really bad, and when i went to take off it lagged a bit until about 25 mph.i forgot if its the cvt or brake check. but ive heard of more than a few people having this issue.

haha for anyone want to experience this youself .. try this.. go to a automated car wash (the one you set your car to Neutral and let the belt carry you, leave your car on). by the end of the car wash your car will still be "on".. put it in drive.. and your car will stall (my car's rpm will not go up, i need to really hit the gas hard for the car to drive forward just a little).. so what will always end up happening is.. restart the car asap before the car behind you bump into you :yesnod

ok so an update since my last post, the problem came up again today when I was pulling my car into the driveway in reverse and i shut it off and back on and it continued to do the same thing again so im ruling out VDC since it should reset itself once turned off and back on. Another problem that has happened is when i drive the car in normal CVT from a stop; when i accelerate the car seems to lock itself in a gear when i let of the gas, to clarify: sounds & feels like when driving in 1st and letting of the gas at 4-5rpm and not shifting up to 2 if anyone understands what i mean, cars only dont this 2 times but goes back completely to normal right after. But im starting to hate the CVT, bring the surfer to the Dealer tomorrow and explaining it to them since the car is under fully warranty, bout 3 months old and only has 1,8XX miles, lets hope this gets fixed and i can enjoy this car with out worry. il let you know how this pans out

not sure if this helps out bro, but my wife and I had the EXACT same issue with her murano (2003 CVT) and it ended up being a transmission failure. dealership wanted me to fork out 5,000 for a new transmission... maybe the CVT has been modified since then (2003) but this problem your having seems too similar for it to be something else. i had doubts when buying my coupe, mostly because of my distrust in the CVT. after hearing these issues your having, which are all too similar to the ones i lived, im wishing i had gone with a different car.

check this out if you have time...

... i think we need to take this issue seriously before the stupid CVT transmission on our cars ends up dissapointing us all more than it already has!

interesting i really wanted a manual in the first place, the car has an appointment for tuesday morning and am gonna take a nissan tech in the car with me for a ride but the car does the problem randomly so i dont expect it to do it but lets see what happens....

P.S. what ended happening with the murano did you fork over for the transmission or what?

alright so about 2 weeks ago i brought the car to the dealer w/ and took a nissan tech for ride but the car didnt do what it did. so they called up a nissan engineer and he said the transmission was trying to protect itself and therefore went into the limp mode because i was shifting it to quickly. since the yesterday i was on my way to class driving on the left of a 2 lane side of the road and some guy made a right turn not into his immediate right but into mine, the lane over and hit me in the side and pushed me into a car waiting to make left and some guy hit me in the back right corner and left, the car is horrible shape right now the front suspension is shot..... waiting to see it if its totaled or repairable at a friends body shop
