This is the kind of story I like.....Bubba1 wrote:
I had an ornery neighbor like that years ago. Behind my house we have an alley with garages/driveways tie into it. This scrooge neighbor, a divorced chiropractor who worked out of his home had a one car garage diagonally across from my garage where he kept his car. Alleys are a low priority for the town's plow so we're usually on our own, (That's why I have a blower now)
My next door neighbors wife was 9 months pregnant when we had the blizzard of '96. 3' of snow in one storm. No one of our street had a snow blower at that time, so we needed to dig out the long alley by hand, just in case she went into labor. All of the neighbors that use that alley (except the retirees) were asked to help at least a little. He was the only one to flat out refuse. It wasn't for health reasons. He was in good shape, He was just ornery.
He smiled and told us he was gonna let us do all of the work and he'd just shovel into our completed work when we finished. It sounded amusing, but he was dead serious. We warned him he may not see his car until spring and not to expect help from any of his neighbors should he need something from a store or a ride. He didn't care.
Well, we needed a place to toss all that the snow so we buried his garage door under literally 10 tons of very dense snow. We periodically mashed it down to make it even more dense. It took a little longer to clear the alley, but it was worth it. He could not access his car for at least 3 weeks. We all got a good laugh as he had to take cabs to run errands. We made sure to smile and wave whenever we saw him coming or going in the cab. He ended up selling the house a few months later and moved away.A happy ending.
