in the process of removing the motor, how to get upper transmission bolts in back?

hey everyone,

im currently pulling out my motor, and im trying to leave the transmission in, hoping that this would mean one less thing to reinstall back in the car. I was wondering has anyone removed the ka24 and left the transmission in the car? if so.. how did you remove the top bolts that bolt the transmission to the block? im having a hell of a time accessing those

the bolts on the right that say 1 are the ones im having trouble with

thanksMarko

get a few of those ratchet extentions with one of those "joints" that turn on an angle. sorry cant remember the correct name of it. get a friend to guide you on the bolts if you have problems.

For future reference, I've heard the easiest way to do it (and its the same for just about any rwd transmission) is to get a u-joint socket (the joints that turn on an angle) and about 3-4 feet of extentions and just go in all the way from the back of the transmission.

leaving the transmission attached makes it so much easier. if i were you id actually consider removing the transmission and reattaching it externallly. id rather deal with the shifter crossmember and drive shaft than trying to align the block with the shaft and those top housing bolts. but im an idiot so what do i know.

the top housing bolts are no longer a problem for me, the ratchet i had took em out with a breeze.. now the problem i guess will be the shaft, but that should just pop straight in no?

Should pop right in. Should... Me and 2 friends spent 5 hours trying to get the transmition back into the engine only to have to take it all the way out, realign the clutch, and file down a slight edge on the pilot bearing that wasn't letting the transmition go in. You will probably have far better luck but you can never be sure.

ratcheting wrenches work marvels in situations like this. The top two are the easiest on the transmission with ratcheting wrenches...

just to kiss craftsman's *** a little more, they sell small sockets that turn your ratching wrenches into ultra-low profile ratchet, in some situations the hundred dollars spent for a full metric set of both of these items is incredible

and i hate the little pilot bearing nubbin

While on this topic, how did you guys torque down the top two bolts? I couldn't find any way to connect a torque wrench to them so I just estimade using the force I needed to put into the other ones.

i get an extension, swivel socket and an impact wrench. That way, wether ur going on or off, you know it'll get good torque on it.
