You sound like a savvy guy, so maybe this suggestion is obvious. If you don't want to get hassled at the dealer, than do your homework. Spend the $15 bucks or so to get a report from Consumers Union. By doing so, I found out that the dealer was getting $2,500 in factory cash, which was not mentioned on Edmunds. I ended up getting it all off the price of the car. Get the invoice price, and negotiate up from that. Don't answer the dealer questions that are designed to give them an advantage over you, like, how much do you want to spend each month?
Also, be reaslistic about the car you're getting. They will negotiate over a new 2006 model, they likely will negotiate less over a 2007 if its in demand. And always get up and leave if you don't like how you're being treated. There will always be another G, at another dealership. I got mine at Kearny Mesa Infiniti in San Diego, and they were fine.
Also, don't negotiate financing with the sales guy. Talk about it with the finance guy, if you don't have your own loan.
