Hey guys, I was hoping someone could help me out, I'm looking for some FPCMs for my Q. I've re soldered the original(which I think may have been a junkyard replacement due to the grease marker scrawl on it) twice now without beefing up the circuits. The old tutorials on here don't have pictures anymore, and my electrical skills are in the emerging state. Ideally, I am looking for a really nice one and another one that may need some love, just due to the fact that this issue has stranded me twice and it is not a fun road side job. Also, if anyone has any pictures of the procedure to add wires to the board to lower the resistance and save the melted joints, that would also be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Thrill

I guess I'll have to ask...
What is a FPCM?

Is it fuel pressure control module?

Close. It's a fuel pump control module. A small aluminum "computer" mounted to the rear parcel shelf slightly to the passenger side behind the rear seats. But I guess since its main function is to control fuel pressure, then I guess it's down to semantics.

don't forget it's the electrolytic caps in the early ones that also fail. eventually the power transistors also go. so, it's more than just upgrading the ground path....

I'm assuming you replaced your fuel pump? It's the excessive current draw from a worn pump that eats the control units.

Yes. A little over a year ago I changed the fuel pump with a Bosch unit and resoldered the FPCM. But it looked worse after it stranded me a couple a weeks ago. I resoldered the FPCM again and it started right up. I would prefer not to spend close to $600 on a factory replacement if possible.
