Its a sad day when your Beautiful 1990 240sx decides to give out on you. Recently my passenger side spring and strut tower in the engine compartment decided to unweld its self and cut my gas line while I was driving... One quick road side repair of the gas line and I was able to limp it home, but not before the Tower is completely ruined!!

Jumping to the end of the story, I NEED a NEW spring and strut Tower!!

No Junk yard has it that I've contacted. Does Anyone know where I can get one?? I am NOT going to let my 240 die this way! She's only 18... she needs to live to see 21 at least.

Nice! I had a feeling there were some good finds in these forums. How much would you want for the passenger side Tower? I only need the one side, the other is still in good condition.

I can take a few photo's of where it split along the factory seams so you have an idea of how much metal I need to replace. It may take me a few days to get them posted though because I'm traveling to PA for the weekend and the car is currently in a friends garage.

Hey Ericb, I finally got to take pics of my busted strut tower. I'll post them later tonight. (I have to find a place to put them on the web) I'd like to know how much you want for it? I'm on Long Island in NY, so I'll look into shipping as well

Here are the Pics Finally!

and

The Manuf. Seams split on either side and it rusted down by the frame rail, so i'd need the piece to be from either manuf. seam left to right and from the frame rail up to the lip where the hood sits. Let me know if this works. Thanks!

That metal bar is actually a copper pipe that the original owner put in the gas line. I don't know why, but its been working and doing the job for a while. Its not zip tied to the power stearing, it just appears that way now that the reservoir and fuel filter have been smashed up against it due to the tower damage.

I'm hoping to get a replacement for the strut tower metal and a friend already agreed to help me cut and weld in the replacement one I get. After that, its off to the races on fixing/replacing crappy repairs like that one.

It looks to me as though the spot welds were rusted out and the whole seam came apart. You'll need to repair the rust damage before you can properly save that side of the car.

So Im about to buy a 91, and I've been told to look for rust.

These pictures posted here don't reveal much rust, in my opinion. Is this a good visual example of rust damage? Because there doesn't seem to be alot of rust there...or does bad rust look worse than that?

The rust that occurred on my car was lower down on the tower... its not visable from the pics I took. The broken seams in the pics aren't rusted that bad they just got over stressed and broke.

Good luck with the purchase! Just check over the whole car... under the car, in the wheel wells, etc.

For anyone that comes across this thread, my 240 is FIXED!! It runs like a champ and drives the same! I had a guy I know fix the tower and weld in the new one I found in PA. I went to Harry''s U Pull It - a junk yard that they let you roam around in for $2. If you see something you need, and have the tools to remove it, it's yours for pennies! I picked up the entire passenger inner fender metal including the coil tower, a few minor interior trim pieces and the heater/ac control unit for $18.25.... amazing!

The repair was done a little less than 2 years ago and its been performing great. If you need a guy to do some professional welding for cheap on Long Island, drop me a line. The guy I used Chris is great. He works primarily on American muscle cars tubbing the rear ends and restoring them. His work is top notch. My 240 drives even straighter then it did before the coil tower rusted out!

Now for the sad news..... I need to sell her...

The day has come, the one I never wanted to admit would happen. I've reached my financial and schedule limit and can no longer put the time or $$ into fixing her up anymore. I've always wanted to make it a show car one day and dreamed of being able to do most of the work myself. Unfortunately it has been a while since I've been able to do the work necessary to keep the car in good shape. It still runs great and is drivable, I just can't afford the necessary time and money it would take to make my dream come true. If your looking for a great running car to be a project car, check out my ad in the classifieds....

The guy I know did all the welding and associated strut work for a little over $400... The car drives straight and breaks straight, alignment wasn't thrown off, he did good work.

Check out my classified ad... I'm sad but I need to sell.
