Nope, I only wrench on my own car now. But I am full of shi...advice.
I would find a general mechanic that you know is good from personal reviews (my Mom goes to a guy who is excellent for routine stuff) and have them change the coolant, oil & filter, brake fluid, power steering fluid, diff fluid and transmission fluid (auto) or gear oil (manual).
Then a tune up - radiator hoses, belts, spark plugs, cap & rotor, plug wires, air filter, fuel filter. Plus an engine inspection to see if any vacuum line problems or exhaust/gasket/oil leaks are seen.
Coilovers are for 2 things - lower the car so it looks better and replace usually blown out stock struts & shocks. They are expensive ($500 used / ebay - $1200 for brand names) but don't bother with springs & shocks 'cause they will never get low enough to look good IMHO.
Post up your questions here, then you get more than one opinion.
