hey im new and looking to buy a 240sx (obviously) and i was wondering what would be a better buy a vert or a s13 coupe. i like the hatches and the kouki but id rather buy a vert or a s13 coupe if i can find one. i no that there were about 8,200 verts made but how many coupes were made? which one would be a better car in the long run based on performance, rarity and overall replaceable parts. ive searched but some of my questions still aren't answered. i just want to know peoples opinion on this so i can become a better 240 owner in the future. thx

Verts are way harder to find. coupes are everywhere. Vert ownwers are an elite group. You have to really LOVE the car. If your easily annoyed by things then the vert is not for you. But if you like being unique and cool then get a vert. Make sure you have the money for things such as a 5-speed swap and all that. The vert weighs about as much as a s14 so coupes are lighter. But i would take my vert over any of my other 240s anyday.

If you do get a vert make sure to keep it clean and in good shape. The only ones I have seen around here have been trashy looking and it's just sad to see a vert like that. I mean it's sad to see any 240 like that but for some reason a vert is extra sad lol.

what about the parts like rear window and the cloth for the roof. would the coupe be cheaper when it comes to part or would the vert.

Convertibles are ALWAYS going to be more expensive.

Yep, a coupe is probably cheaper in the long run as vert-specific parts are sometimes hard to come by. But it's a convertible 240sx, probably only a few thousand left on the road. You know how many Miatas and S2000s there are out there? TONS! So it's a bit of an exclusivity thing, a bit of a tuner thing, and a bit of a cool-vert-vibe thing. It's not a car, it's a 240sx convertible. By the way, I might be selling mine - watch this space...

this exclusivity/elitist thing is absolute bulls***. you should own a car simply because you can't imagine owning any other relative alternative. The s-chassis is a solid base for a beginner's FR experience. Plenty of aftermarket support at good prices compared to the S2000/Miata markets and the convertible just makes life better for cruising. All rarity means is that some people will give you the stink eye when you cut into perfectly good quarter panels, doors and radiator supports when you modify in the fashion you see fit. That and price is slightly higher, but in all reality (at least in FL) coupes can be somewhat hard to come by too.

Do nothing for anyone else when it comes to your own project. Any girl I'm with is because she's into me, sometimes she thinks the car is a +, but I won't put up with people who are around me because of my car. Don't settle, don't compromise, it's as simple as that.

Sorry if this seems rude/blunt, but a "greater than thou" mentality is really gay, especially if you have it because you own a limited run of a mediocre car.

Awesome post! Could not agree more. If you want rare and elitist, you're better off pinching pennies (or panties) to get a porsche or old muscle car. The S chassis is awesome, but not a collector car. And I would like to emphasize what Timeless said about doing things for YOUR satisfaction and not anyone else's. That'll just frustrate you because you cannot please everyone. Follow your tastes and do what you want, someone is bound to like it (or at least appreciate it for what it is). GL with whatever you decide.

Timeless - what do you mean by FR experience?

Dang son chill out. Elitist? I was simply implying that you won't see one every 7th or 8th car on the road that's all. A car's not going to make you anything except maybe mobile. The question was between vert and coupe. One's a convertible and one is not. If you want a convertible there are a lot out there to choose from. If you want a hard top tuner the same is true.

i just thought about it wouldnt a vert be more prone to theft or stripping because the parts would be harder to find

i was pretty worried about it when i first got mine, but when it comes down to it, if somebody wants in your car, they'll get in it. As far as rare parts and stripping, not really. Its a small enough niche where parts don't really turn fast enough, at least the vert specific pieces. All you have to worry about is people who want 240s, not just verts.

Just get whatever you like and dont worry about what other people like or which model is more prone to theft.

Verts are a LOT harder to find, are generally more difficult to live with and are usually in fairly bad condition if you DO find one. Dropping the top is definitely a plus, along with the exclusivity of a 240 vert, but looking back on the two verts I've owned I think it takes real dedication to be an owner. Honestly, I'd recommend a coupe unless you find a real gem of a vert.

I'll sell you mine for $10k
