Am I to understand that the 95 Q had a single indash Cd play with the head unit, as well as a changer in the trunk. I certainly hope so. I have no Idea as to why I have never heard this fact. Can anyone confirm, and if so, would it be advisable to get a 95's head unit and a Cd changer for the trunk with out it being FM modulated. As my (now defunct 91 Q) had a 10 disc changer in the trunk, several stereo shops were amazed at the fact that it was digital. I told him I had no idea, butit sounds great. They guys told me that it has some kind of adapter that allowed it to play 100% digital instead of being FM modulated and loosing some sound quality (approx 25-20% he said). I was shocked. I didn't fully understand what he meant until he said that statement of having to tune the radio to a certain channel and then turn the CD player on. I was shocked. Then I showed him what I was talking about when the adio was on, I hit play on the CD change by the armrest and like clockwork, the radio shut off, the antenna went down and the CD started to play. She scratched hs head and said " they sure don't make em like this anymore".

Marlon, please immediately get in your car and drive due south and do not stop until you have crossed the Red River.

All 1994-1996 only had the Sony 10 CD players in the trunk controlled by the head unit. The FM modulated set-up is strictly Pep Boys technology, and only implemented on rusty old Starions in Appalachia.

Some times OK is just Okie.

Not to my knowledge, but I understand that the controller (which interfaces with the head unit) on the Sony 10 CD changers is proprietary to Infiniti.

Hey Maxnix, I guess I have to agree with your pep boys comment. I have a really low mileage Q with recently replaced BOSE all way round so I want to use the stock setup. I wanted a changer so decided to try a Sony RF unit in the trunk. It works well, but definitly sounds like a pep boys installation. I have tried everything but a distortion is persitant and noticable with anything less than head banger music. I have tried a second unit with no change, several different ground combinations, a noise filter, and even powering it from a separate 12v power source with no joy. I about to conclude that RF is not an option. Can anyone confirm? Thx.

Q45ver. Welcome to the board!

The difference is between discrete outputs vs. a frequency modulated output. The FCC specifications do not require the separation nor the frequency response that two discrete that the discrete outputs can deliver.

I'd try to find an old factory unit with the trim panel for the trunk mount. One caveat, the XA-10B CD carriers are getting rare as they are no longer produced.
