Just as a random thought this morning I decided to get my guides done at my buddys shop today. I knew I had a little guide noise that was getting worse, but what I saw was totally unexpected. Just last month I replaced my valve cover gasket and saw both guides looking pretty good though the drivers side was slightly chipped.

Well check this out...and I appologize for the quality as I took these from my camera phone.

Here's the old chain:

My finger is pointing to what's left of the drivers side guide. It's no bigger than my fingernail.

Here's another part of the guide we found caught in the chain

Timing cover (random)

Guide/Chain Kit

Guide/Chain Kit 2 METAL!!!

New drivers side guide - metal backed

New chain guide kit installed

Damn, those pictures suck! I need to carry my digicam around more often.

So those of you procrastinating on getting those guides done, DO IT!!!

Definately good to get it out of the way. I changed the guides on my truck's Ka and I'm hoping the '40 will last a while longer but it's inevitable.

Im wondering if I should have mine done. I have the slap noise at startup, but I dont think it makes any additional sounds.

I got all the parts to do it (whole kit - I was gonna sell it, but maybe I should keep it just in case). I dont want to pay for labor though.

I just finished doing the timing chain on my ka-e and it wasnt really hard, but it did take some time and pacients. my strait guide was smashed to peices in my oil pan. But I still have some noise around 2-3krpm and cant figuer out what it is. Only there once the car warms up.
