Okay, so I'm in a bit of a pinch. I need to decide what to do. I love my 240sx, but I've had a few bad experiences lately (clutch and battery dying, as well as clutch positioning sensor) and have had the car towed due to that. It's 13 years old with 153k on it, and I'm starting to realize it. However...it's in mint condition, drives well, and I just have too much sentiment towards it to throw it away. I'm assuming I have $2500 to play with. Here are my options...please vote via a reply and offer an explanation.

1. Keep 240sx, buy Silvia front clip, perform swap (Yes, i can do it for $2500, I have connections)2. Sell 240sx, buy '02 SE-R Spec V with 6 year warranty3. Sell 240sx, rebuild '72 240z

Pretty much I'm torn between 1 and 2. I LOVE my car to death, but the idea of having a 6 year security blanket to cover ****ups is great. Then again, it's an extra $300 a month (payment and extra insurance) for that, and I may go out of state to college and lose my awesome job. The 240sx is warranty-free, but cheaper monthly (assuming I don't fix a lot of crap every month). What would YOU do?

keep the 240 and to the swap, ur always gonna have small problems here and there w/ an old car, but the potential of the 240 is limitless

1+3If you do a swap you will still have problems pop up. But at least you own it and don't have to make the note. Same for #3. Plus building cars is way more fun than just buying a new one.

keep it, but the other two are tough, i love the z cars and the ser, but a swap is point less, keep the 2500 and save it incase of emergency, so if u do need a clutch or some other part u allways have the cash, so id say keep the 240 put 2500 in a cd or savings account and hold it. till u need it.

first off, stop using the word pickle, it's the 21st century, not the 1940's

haha j/k :)

if you want a worry free car, go with the sentra

as much as the 240 and the sr are great engine, one fact continues to hold true, they will be old even if you get a 98 s14 it's still gonna be around 5-6 years old, so things will start to go wrong

same thing applies for the sr it will be an old motor, an if certain parts break, you're s.o.l

if you want something reliable buy the sentra it will be under warranty for a while which will mean no worries and less pains in the butt for you

of course this is all assuming you have the money to get a new sentra

either way good luck

Well I have to agree with yellow_jacket if you can get a 240z for a decent price. One of my friends just got done swaping a 280zx 82' turbo engine in his 76' 280z. And another friend that has a 83 280zx with 56,000 original miles. You can't leave the 240sx out. I was always fixing my 240sx but it was easy and cheap to fix. I guess its the love for a nissan. I would fix the 240 and keep your money, especially if you are about to go off to school. You don't need a car payment, that would suck. And down the road, you can restore the 240sx as a classic car. (It is almost 20 yrs old now...) Wouldn't that be funny to see classic car tags on a 240sx?

why don't u take the money you have, and instead of swapping so soon, use that money to make sure everything is in tip top shape, like replace old and used stuff

I'm a diehard 240 fan, I love mine to death. But with that being said, I was also looking at an '04 SE-R Spec V for next spring. I'm getting a nasty valve tick and despite my getting a CA18 in the near future, I feel sometimes maybe I should get something with less milage on it. Sigh... it's a sad day when I plan on selling my Sky Eighty for a FWD car. NISMO has a pretty decent aftermarket for the SE-R however and from what I understand the NISMO parts won't void the warranty.

No offense intended, but if you consider a dead battery a 'bad experience' and had your car towed due to a bad clutch positioning sensor you might be getting over your head when it comes to getting a swap and all the little problems that come with it.

Sell it, get a civic :D j/k

Heh, how's this for a bad 240SX experience . . . bought car with engine noise, though the front cover was replaced, along with the timing chain (this should have been a huge warning sign, but due to my stupidity, it wasn't), engine noise turns out to be spun bearing due to original engine's timing chain problem allowing coolant into the block. $3,475.02 later, the problem is fixed; 1-2 months later, a timing chain noise reappears, and now, 9 months later, I'll probably have to pull the front cover and fix it, yet again, or have a mechanic do it for another $900 or so.

Oh, and the radiator in my car seems to be from a KA24DE model, and is a little different, particularly in height, so it has been hitting part of my hood, eventually causing a pinhole leak in a radiator, all because some former owner put the wrong radiator in the car.

It doesn't stop there . . . there's also a nice water leak in the hatch, and it's not from the taillights. Now, who wants to challenge me for problems with a dead stock 240SX, that are non-accident related? :-)
