Post

Hi Guys, LONG POST I'm a newbie to this forum, sorry to take up valuable time. However I've spent the last two hours searching the archives and latest posts and I can't find my answers.

First off the car is my sister's 2000 Maxima. She purchased it new and has kept it serviced at her regular shop and I've done a lot to it myself. I work on Outboard motors primarily, but I love working on anything, especially when I can help someone out financially. I pay for all the parts and won't take a nickel from my sister for any kind of work on her stuff.

The Maxima has 216,000 miles. The SES light is on, code p0400, egr stuff. I don't know if a diagnostic machine can tell positively if it is the egr or something else. From what I've been reading and hearing I need to go ahead and spend the money for a new egr.

Anyway, I'm in a jam right now. I'm in Florida and need to go to Atlanta,GA Wednesday to meet up with my family for Turkey day. HOWEVER after fishing all day today, I hopped in the car, slap wore out. I fired it up, drove 35mph for about three miles. When I started putting the brakes on the oil pressure light flickered, then went out when I stopped.

I left that place thirty minutes later, went to gas station. Light came on again when I pulled up to gas pump. I checked the oil and it was full from the last oil change 2000miles ago. So I hopped back in the car and drove to the canal to clean fish and the oil light stayed on for the entire one mile drive.

After cleaning my fish, I drove back to my place a couple miles away and the light never came on,flickered or anything.

So, I have most of my tools with me. I would like to get a pic of where the sending unit is and how to test it with my DVOM meter. 216,000 is a lot of miles. I don't want to take any chances and have a catastrophic engine failure driving it to a shop, especially when I can perform enough of a test to see if the problem is real or not. I do have pressure gauges that I could hook up too.

I just need a helping hand, a few pictures and some advice on what I should do.

Sorry for the looooong post, I'll give my Bud Lite to anybody that can give me some real help.

Thanks in advance,

Johnrude

Here's a link to the lubrication and cooling section of the service manual. Hopefully it will be of some help; it does have pressure check diagnostic procedures. Unfortunately I can't find a good picture of the oil pressure sending unit location...the FSM doesn't even seem to have any good diagrams of it.

And welcome to NICO!

Thank you Mr DOOM,

I'm just getting moving good this morning, gonna read the pdf, thanks big time, and thanks for the welcome. I'll be posting back on a quick easy outcome hopefully.
