Hey guys, I found a lead on a 96 240 SX, with 99k miles, its an auto transmission, but with as much city driving as I do (Stuck in traffic) I am considering a move to the auto. Does that transmission hold up pretty well?I just sold my X 240 awhile back, other then styling does the 96 240 have the same suspension? Any other plus's? Or anything to keep an eye out for on this model?I think its a SE, it has pw sunroof, leather, alloy wheels, clean, good shape (Although I haven't seen it yet) what might a price range be for a well serviced 95? Thanks for any & all imput!

you're probably looking at $4500-$7000, unless it is in absolutely flawless condition I'd say $5000-$6000 is a real good price... :D

As far as the car goes, sounds like an SE... it is if its got the 5lug wheels, fog lights, and white gauges...

As for the transmission its just as good as anyother. What I mean by that is the transmission will hold up if it was maintained properly through its life, and if not, it wont just like any automatic.

Take mine for instance, as I got it with 28k babied miles back in 11/99' or less then 10k a year. I now have 112k on it, but I switched to mobil 1 synth atf from day one, and have flushed it every 25-30k with only that. These 80+k miles have not been easy on it either. Every day a few times a day it gets downshifted to 2nd, Ive been down more 1/4 miles then I care to remember, and it has now been through 6 auto-x's, with a minumum of 4 runs each, left in second and downed to first when need be. Notice the fact there arent any neutral drops or running with the Dropping Resistor off (once or twice at the strip to test it, DR that is).

It still runs like a charm with smooth and precise shifts. Its all in the care and maintanence...

Good info! I was wondering, my last American car a 95 Trans Am, it gave up the auto transmission with just 19k babied miles....I have driven only a stick since. But being I just hit the big 4-0 and do 90% city driving, the thought of an auto is coming back...Just not in a American car!Any other input is great!

Ahhh but it was a pontiac.... I had a 88 GP, unfortunately between my 91 and 96 240's, that even though well maintained and not abused had the transmission fried at about 80k. I had to drive it for a few weeks in orlando rushhour to and from work with it not able to go over 2000 - 2500. I cant rem which but it was just over the stall speed in it.

I wasnt too versed in actual mechanics lingo back then so what they said didnt stick. There was talk of grinding old internals out to replace it though hehe...

Wow, 80K, yep, alot don't make it near that far...Its really no wonder the Camaro & Firebirds have gone the way of the extinct...I wonder if the Grand Prix's will as well?
