I recently purchased a 2006 M45 and I was curious what kind of city gas mileage I should expect? I am getting around 14 MPG right now and was curious if that was normal - or should I expect better (my Chevrolet Tahoe gets 17!).

Any suggestions on how to improve it?

I dont think theres much you can do.

Don't expect too much better. My 2006 M45S averages between 15.9 to 16.4 combined highway & city driving. I drive semi-aggressive, usually 10+ mph over whatever the posted limit is.

When I am doing about 60 to 70 percent highway driving, I average about 16.5 to 17.5 mpg in my 2003 M45.

Nowadays, with more like 30 to 35 percent highway driving (company moved location), my average is down around 14.5 to 15.5 mpg.

At an average of 19 MPH in my little city I average about 12-13 mpg w/92 octane driving like the old man I am. On the highway in 5th gear (I have to put it there-the machine likes to cruise on its own in 4th) I get about 23-24 mpg.

Hey, luxury costs. You knew that when you first got into the cockpit..!

Hello,

Frogfan, welcome to NICO. Short of the obvious (check tire pressure, avoid abrupt starts/stops, etc...), gas mileage is never going to be very good on the M45 or M35. Neither engine was designed for economy. Rather, performance. Furthermore, only having 5 gears hurts as well. I know it is strange that our mileage is analogous to a three ton truck. At least for me, I wanted to own a modern V8 while still possible. Given GM pulling out of their passenger V8 program, VW/Audi going with direct injection with turbo and supercharging 6's and 4's, and of course skyrocketing fuel prices, it seems V8's will soon go the way of the Dodo. I am getting 16.0 M.P.G.Cheers,M.L

I get around 12 in the city (West LA), and I have been able to stretch it to around 20 on the highway. I am glad I live a mile and a half from work
