hey so i was talking to a guy i know in japan about bringing a car over to new zealand where im currently staying for awhile (im originally from canada) anyways he was saying that there might be a loophole which lets u bring that car back into canada regardless of model as a gift or something to that if your in the country for more than three months on a working visa(im looking at an S15 spec r or S15 silvia varietta (convertible) (super rare))

think something like this....

but then... anyone else heard of something like this? im very interested because it could be potentially the only original legal S15 in the country.

"Just for future reference, you can't bring any car under 15 years old into Canada unless you've owned it overseas for 6 or more months. I've researched this and that's what I found, If you know different than please let me know I've been tryin to get a skyline or an S15 for a while now."

I'm not too familiar with Canadian laws..so please don't hold me to that..all I know without having deep pockets is extremely difficult to get a S15 into the U.S.

no thats not right car just has to be 15 years old and pass certain compliancy tests, rules havent changed since when i brought my car in. whoever that srpower person is doesnt kno wut hes talking about, no such law exists.

there is one I herd about, you'd have to own a dealership first of all. You would A. either have to remarket the car sort of like Tommy Kiara or B. Drive it with a dealer plate lol...since any car can go on the road with a dealer plate despite any e-test or cert issues.

go to http://www.riv.ca and they will let you know there. if the car is not 15 years old then you are most likely not getting it in canada. if the car was not built in north america then you have to wait 15 years in order to bring it in the country by broker mainly. so get in contact with a broker and go that route and the broker will let you know if you can or not. people here in bc are driving the skylines and everything but nothing newer than 15yrs. http://www.theskylineshop.com/ will be one main way of buying a car in canada withough having to worry about paying a broker or importing it yourself. hopefully i was helpful.

Long story short. It has to be 15 years old and meet saftey regulations. When i had my GT-R I had to convert the headlights and add reflective markers on the rear quater panels. For my Fairlady it was simple as DRL's and a simple saftey.

There is no loop hole when it comes to owning it overseas for a period of time and bringing it with you back to Canada. You can bring a S15 or a R34 over but can only be registered as a track only car. Even then sometimes it can only be registered "track-only" for a period of time then is needed to be exported.

The ONLY loop-hole is to literally dismantle the ENITRE car, cut it apart. Ship it in boxes and then re-assemble the car and go to court to register it as a "Kit-Car" or a "Specialty Vehicle". Some have done it in B.C with R34's and it cost them upwards of $125,00-150,000. Not really worth it in my opinion.

yeah i had to add lights on my first silvia when i brought it in. i heard about the track car thing too which would be cool, if i was into drifting and stuff id totally do it. but ya this guy is a broker in japan which is the only reason i brought it up because hes pretty reputable. anyways thx for the answers guys maybe ill find something maybe i wont but atleast ill be able to have an S15 for a short time here in NZ
