I want to have a very reliable car, but also have it somewhat quick. I have a crappy job, and am a full-time engineering student, so I have little money. So, in essence, I am choosing all three; Cheap, Fast, Reliable.

I don't have anywhere near the money for anything RB series, so thats out.

I would have to save for a long while to be able to afford an SR series, so I'd count this one out too.

I don't have the fabrication skills (or a welder for that matter) to do a VQ series, so thats out.

As I said, I want it to be reliable, and since I don't have much experience in tuning fuel maps (just once, on my old 318is turbo), the KA-T is out.

SO this brings me down to two feasible options. Either the CA18DET, or an N/A KA24DE, with bolt-ons. Now for the CA18, I love high RPMs, turbochargers, fuel economy, and the lower torque (don't want to be changing my tires all the time...also this will have to operate in snow occasionally, and torque is a motherf*cker in snow). For the KA24, I love the fact that the motor won't have to be pulled, as well as all the other headaches that come with motor swaps, and thats about it. But thats a big one. Well I suppose I also like the torque (torque and I have a love/hate relationship), because it is your friend when getting a big-body like an S14 to move.

Another factor to consider is that I've never seen a CA18DET in an S14 before, and I don't know how one would drop in.

Does anyone have any opinions?

Leave the KA in the car.

Run a $300 75shot on it.

Go fast.

It'll be reliable. Nitrous is very safe, so long as used correctly.
