I'm interested in importing parts from Japan and I'm looking for some more information on it. Is there anyone on here that has personally ever tried? I have a friend that lives in Japan and I have been doing research on it but I'm still looking for more information. I'm NOT trying to import Skylines, just half cuts, motor sets and wheels mainly. My plan is to go to Japan, inspect the product my self and watch the container get loaded. Any help or general discussion on this would be great. Thanks.

Why would you waste the time and money going there when there are plenty of importers in the country?

I think you could do it... It would be pricey as hell to fly over to Japan just to inspect the s***. But DGK is right, there are tons of companies that import s*** from Japan, so the cost might not outweigh the benefit...

Are you saying you're interested in actually becoming an importer? Like as a business?

If so, there's more info that you will need than you can find on this forum. My girlfriend looked into that and you'd have to take all kinds of courses to learn all the laws you need to adhere to. And you need capital to start it up...

Unless you're serious about it as a business, I wouldn't bother. Just use an established reputable importer.

Well you could just go to an importers website and contact them and see how it goes, but as being a customer importing an engine, I had to get it through customs, and have the shipping company realease it to the storage place.

The plan is actually start a business importing. The trip to Japan wouldn't be necessary but an added bonus, I've never been. Capital is necessary with almost any business and that isn't a problem. I just wanted to start slow with one container and sell them at a low enough price to gain some of the U.S. market. I know there are plenty of shops that import already but I believe I could do it better.
