I think this has been talked about thoroughly.. but I still think it's possible. Not that I have the money to do it... but...

The US gov't says that you can import any car from Canada that was manufactured before sept 1, 89.

I know that in Canada they can import any car that's more than 15 years old.

So if you could get someone in Canada to pick up an 89 GTR and have it shipped and registered in Canada.... Could you, once it's registered in Canada... bring it here to the states?

Now, I am sure you would have emissions issues in some local areas, and likely it would be a pain to get it all registered.. but I bet it could be pulled off now.

Anybody see a problem with this theory??? I am not sure if the US import rules check back a car's history before canadian registration is done? Hopefully they see Canadian registration and don't pursue it further.

i think one of the big pains with registration is making sure customs has a form of title from the country of origin so that they can authenticate the title that comes with the car. could be wrong tho.

In 89 there were GTR's.

As for the importing it to Canada and then bringing it here I believe it's only for cars that were originally sold in Canada which the Skyline wasn't. This topic has been brought up a couple times on other boards already. Seems like even the people in Canada are still having a bit of a hassle trying to get them registered.
