Not true, as long as you're not driving it on the road.TekuDrifter18 wrote:not to sure but i would assume that since it is not 25 years old it would still technically be illegal to have in the states.
No, because in order for that to work, the paperwork has to state that the car was imported from country of origin to the U.S. on or after it's 25th year. So, if you brought it into the states, then waited, it would still show that the car was imported before it was supposed to be.MySXisSlowerThanUrs wrote:What if i buy a GTR now and keep it in storage for anther few years till that 25 year mark hits. Yeah, you could do that - as long as the storage isn't in the US...MySXisSlowerThanUrs wrote:What if i buy a GTR now and keep it in storage for anther few years till that 25 year mark hits. Would i be able to register it or does it have to be imported?
The 25 year mark is a federal law, not a state law.Hobbystock wrote:In Colorado you can register anything 25 years old, You get collectors plates that last for 10 years. They do that so you don't have to show proof of insurance every year to get it registered.
I didn't realize that.C33LaurelRacer wrote:

Confirm what, the 25 year law? Or the Canadian 15 year law? I don't have time to look up the actual article and section number right now, but it's there. Read this:irax wrote:can anyone find anything that can confirm this?
According to federal law, any vehicle older than 25 years old can be imported and does not have to meet any EPA requirements. It does however have to meet DOT requirements (EPA is federal, DOT is state).irax wrote:nope, it still has to comply with DOT and EPA, an illegal motor is an illegal motor
just because states registration does not require a smog test does not mean that you can just swap in something that does require emissions without it.
Not to import a vehicle. It is a federal law that states 25 years to be EPA compliant. What you are referring to would only apply to state mandated emissions laws.Biggamehit wrote:maryland just recently bumped down to 20 years
