Just did a timing chain on my ka24e. Got a new oil pump for the heck of it. Upon installation i noticed that the dist. tab on the dist shaft on top of the oil pump was not lining up where it should acording to the FSM.Since this shaft runs though a worm gear i thought that i just wasn't getting the position right at the start ( matching the detent on the oil pump w/ the peen mark on the shaft and sliding it through correctly). After many retries I put the two pumps side by side and found that the mark on the new oil pump was in the wrong spot! I then matched where the position should be of of the new pump and everything went together great . Car is back together and purring like a kitten.
Moral: check you new pump against the old pump.
