Ive never picked up an Import tuner mag until yesterday. and the only reason I did is because of the abundance of nissans (3 240's and a writeup on skylines) Anyways, some of the stuff in here seems kinda fishy to me, tell me what ya think.

In the power pages, they dyno a 96' S14 and add intake, exhaust, and pulleys. The first thing they add is the unorthodox pulleys, and it gains 12 hp!! from 4k up. from what ive read here, pulleys dont make that big of a difference, Some say its worth it, some say its not. Does I.T. have some sort of deal with unorthodox? or are these numbers correct?

Second, on p. 151, they highlight william nguyen's 97' S14. On the title page it says its KA powered. But it has a SR in it....hmmm. And what an SR it is! Does this guy have some kinda custom head on it or somethin'? His intake and exhaust are on the wrong sides! They probably just accidentally flipped the pic.

Ok, im done now. Time to go to bed:drooling

It was the UR racing pully set that costs 400 bux. I think there is a good chance that is accurate. Import Tuner has not lied that i've seen, they put it down even if it loses power, no gain, etc. I think it's accurate. Do you know anyone with the UR Racing set, it's the 400$ one.

Sport Compact Car. It is quite simply the best enthusiast magazine out there.

Yeah, SCC rules all the other mags. These guys are experienced people, some people may throw stuff at them, but they are respectable guys. Regular curcuit racers, techs, and drivers. Other mags have some interesting stuff from time, but i think SCC is almost 100% no bull.

SCC, most definetly, good tech articles, and they have a great S13 240-Silvia thing going on (May and Sept issues, so far). They get over my head sometimes, but that helps me learn :D .

Me no likey, FWD is a big turnoff, and they get riced out even more often that 240's. But hey, I give some of them respect, pretty good power, pretty cheap.

exactly how did the pulleys give 12hp?i remember reading somewhere pulleys have nothign to do with how much hp you're puttingoutits just easier for the engine to turn lighter pulleys

It doesn't ADD horsepower.... it can free up horsepower so to speak. Basically, it lightens the load, or recipricating mass on the engine... making the available HP more useful for things like....... oh, let's see....... maybe...... acceleration!!! :D

It will help. It's not worth the 450 UR racing set, but the ASP 120 set Yes. It makes your PowerSteering, Waterpump Fan, etc. spin a bit slower to make it put out more power for you wheels. But not slow enough to where you'll even notice it.

i gotta say i give super street their props. they may not have as big a budget at SCC and not quite as technical but for the one reason that two of their staff drive 240's and they were the first rag to start featuring 240's, silvias, 180's etc on a frequent basis.turbo, SCC, IT(lame *** rag) all jumped on the banwagon after that.also i dig japanese racing culture and SS has a feature on japan's car culture every month.ps. MX6 looks nice...slow...especially for a V6...and FF on top of that

I like the tech articles in SCC but man I'm sick of seeing honda this honda that. Although I did see their new issue w/ the Nissans. I guess I have to give them some props for that.

yeah, hehe, import tuner is pathetic, is sorta like that guy u meet on the streets bragging about his civic dx like "yo, i got the INTAKE in there yooooo!" i read through article after article and there is no real technical info listed, they consider a fast car as a stock prelude with nitrous...wow im impressed.....

i bought a few issues of some other mag, called Turbo or Turbo something, i cant exactly remember, they seemed to like nissans and show u a lot of neat things u can do for cheap, they also tell you the exact hp and torque increases they tested. there was one article called project se-r, it follwed an older styled se-r being modded out through several issues, telling u all the details including price. they also installed the unorthodox pullies on this car, i cant remember the exact hp increase, but it was under 10.

Iam Jkin. Trying to talk about mx6s in a 240 board :) You should just get a 240sx, tons around, well not in VA. :) But keep looking, it took me about 6months to find my 240, patience is a virtue.

Most easy mods are all really freeing up hp. freer flowing exhaust, hi-flow intake, TB's, port and polish. If they're not freeing it up, they're just finding it in hiding like ECU. Addding would be new cams, turbo, NO2.

i think you guys are just encouraging tino to hijack even more threads. :thinker

i like the way mx6's look, that's it. Darn Probe motor, or does the probe have a mx6 motor...hmmmm. either way it's slow stock. some crazy things have been done with 'em though.

Ohhh i see, well I think its kind of stupid to start a new post on something like that when this one has died out anyway. However I will be willing to bet I just woke it back up after my last comment.:help

Sport Compact Car and Super Street are the mags I get in the mail. The other I look at at teh 7-11 near ma house.

I give SS the edge over SSC cause of what SpeedDrift said, they were the first to regularly feature our cars, Ricky's Silvia is the first 240 i ever knew about and I still have the issues that covered its buildup. The one thing I dont like about SS is the over abundance of ADS. Ads, ads everwhere and not enough writeups, info etc. Me thinks they would be even better if they lose some ads and add another article or 2.

SSC is sorta like Top Gear (the british motor show) to me. It has a wider range of cars (also a bigger piggy bank) and a classier feel. This issue of SSC is loaded with Japanese Domestic Market cars though. I will be reading this one fer a while. They are also doing the preliminary suspension and brake work on Project Silvia.

Me thinks they are both great and complement each other well. What one lacks, hte other makes up for.

I'm done................................
