is there a way to bypass or *immobilize* the immobilizer in our cars so that you can use regular wal mart key copies? i only have one key and I dont wanna take my blank to the dealer and pay an absurd amount to have it programmed.

Our keys don't have Chips in them(Gen4). Unless your talking about the alarm system. Those would need to be reprogrammed if you get new ones.

And you can get any Nissan blank (as far as I know) and go to a true-value or wal-mart and have them make you a new key and you should not have an issue.

que? im pretty sure it does. My engine runs fine, but if I use a wal-mart copy my key turns in the ignition but my engine wont start. therefore, there is a chip in the original key thats enabling it to start.

I think the 99 may have been the first year.

There is some sort of bypass that you can wire in if you have a remote start installed. I imagine the same thing would work for your application.
