i'd say it all would depend on prices. i've used rebuilt parts before, like a starter and once an alternator. as long as you think its a quality rebuild, it cant hurt. and if its 40% of the cost of a new one, it's a deal as long as it lasts at least 40% the life of a new one (not including minor hassle of replacing it). but otherwise, unless you eat ramen every day (been there) weigh the cost difference. it may not be a substantial difference. on something like a starter, its usually a pretty strong piece, and replacing the brushes and contacts inside is really all you need. maybe a few gears or something. so...if the rebuilt part has a warranty of any kind, and if you can get something back for your core, than i'd say rebuilt. whew.

Go for the factory remanufactured part if you can. Pep Boyz, Autozone, etc. will warranty the parts for life but they wont pay for the tow bills or the labor to replace the parts. Its been my experience with their parts that a very large percentage will fail again.
