That the Q is gone =(, I had to gety rid of her because the insurance was killing me. I do not think I will ever find another car that will replace her. I figure in 2 years ll be able to buy a nice used M45, when im 25 my insurance will drop considrably. I will be on off an on as my mom still has her i30. You guys have been great and I will be sad for a while.

Just like Dennis has said, not much can beat a Q 50-80........

I wish I could get another car..... Id like to drive something else, but I dont want to part with my beloved Q...... I dont think I could emotionally handle it......

How much was your insurance....... I pay 2500/6mo for the works on my Q...... 17 y.o in indiana.......

I personally think that was a lame reason to get rid of the Q...... :) Everything is going to cost a lot to insure, unless you start getting into jalopy cars, like an 85 maxima (cant say anything bad about those cars, their odomoters can do laps around the Qs).....

Wow! I'll never ***** about my $380/6mo again! I don't know if this is an option for you, but when I was your age, I was always the "primary driver" of the crappiest grocery-getter in our "fleet." I saved a lot of money that way... Maybe not totally ethical, but $2500 sounds like larceny to me!

I drop a grand a year on full coverage (50/100/50) for my Q and the 'Burb.

I can't imagine life without my Q, it's become part of who I am... She definitely has a soul.

Not bad. I spend $250 per month for the Q and the I.

I sure hope this is a typo. If not, you are getting hosed by insurance carrier. Or else, you have a really bad driving record. That is $5,000 a year for car insurance. You could buy a nice s13 for that. I pay $650/6 mo for my G and I am only 23 and live in Indy.

Seriously, this has to be a typo.

Yikes, I pay less than $50 a month for my Q with 50/100/50, but I did live in NJ at one time and paid $1800 (100/250/100) a year for a Honda Civic.

I dont think its a typo...... I'll have to check with the parentals to be sure..... Ive been driving a year, no accidents, no tickets, nothing.....

Heath, FYI-- The Q IS the crappiest car in the "fleet" (not in my opinion, though)......

Mine is $650 every 6 months for the 1995 Q45. The new 2003 M45 is actually lower - $607 for six months. This is with State Farm in California - I have been with them for almost 20 years now.

It should be noted that we get almost a 50% discount for multi-car insurance. I keep the deductible high at $1k, since that reduces the payment to the insurance folks. This has paid off for me.

Good God!

Some of you folks must be YOUNG and/or have bad driving records!! I can't imagine paying $5,000/yr in insurance for any car. That is insane. How much is the car worth?! In about 2-3 years you would have paid more for insuring the car than the car was worth when you bought it.

I'm 33 yrs old and I pay $220/month to insure my J30, the wife's 2001 Mazda Tribute, and my 2001 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 motorcycle. That's with zero comprehensive, and $250 collision deductibles. Full coverage on all three vehicles.

I'm almost relieved reading this thread. At 21 I've had 4 tickets, 4 accidents (not at fault), and reckless driving. That was all two to three years ago. Im paying $170/mo for bare minimum liability.

My insurance is near $1600/yr
  • I'm principal driver on a 6 year old Chevy Lumina
  • Good grades discount
  • Driver's Ed discount
  • Perfect Driving Record

I don't even want to know what my insurance would be if I was principal driver on my I35...

If I were some of you other young guys (with the outrageous insurance rates you're claiming) I'd start looking around for a $500 clunker to tuck away somewhere to become principal driver on or start calling different insurance companies as well as finding out what discounts you might qualify for.

Hmmm, if it's your car and you are not the principal driver, who is? Do you have a chauffeur?

Actually my younger sister with no discounts is the principal driver on my car, while I'm the principal driver on hers. Turns out being female is a wonderful thing when it comes to the cost of car insurance.

She, being the principal driver on mine, comes to the tune of almost $200/yr less than my insurance. Nice, considering she's been ticketed once, had an accident already, and is still only 17.

Satisfied?

Duh! Like why didn't I think of that?

I wonder whose insurance coverage is the most likely to be cancelled when the caca hits the fan? For $200 per annum, seems like an unacceptable risk to me, as is her driving anything of value. __________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t

My mom said that the insurance company wanted me to pay 3500-4500 if I get my own insurance and 2000 if I was the primary driver for the Maxima.

I think you should have a little chat with your parents. Because you are getting royally screwed. When I was 17, I was primary on a '93 Ranger and my insurance was only $700/6mo., which seemed like alot. But $2,500/6mo. is utterly atrocious. Hell, that is even too much for an entire year. It's not like your driving a Ferrari. Switch insurance companies NOW.

I am assuming that you are on your parents policy listed as primary driver for the Q, is this correct?

Ryan

Hey, check out some insurance company websites and get one of those free quotes they do online. Quick and easy. You should be able to lower your rate by like $3,000 or $4,000. a year.

Reeeaaally?

Insurance company, or their agent? Either way, I would get it in writing in case it creates a problem in the future. CYA.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t

Sorry for the miscalc...... My insurance is for a year....... 2300/yr....... Probably still too much.... Ill get on some websites and see what I can come up with.......

And you are correct..... Im on my parents policy as the primary Q driver (my parents wont go near it, they're GM only people)......

Unfortunately, my parents dont have a crap car..... My only other choices would be a 03 burban, or an 02 GTP......

Buy a crap car, and park it.

You might have to put full coverage on it, but you can still save a few bucks. Then you have a parts getter.

Just because you are not primary driver, doesn't mean you can't drive the car. If you buy a 1974 Catalina, and are the only person in your household that ever got behind the wheel, you would be primary driver. Then the Q could be considered an "occasional use" car. If you were to wreck the car, you might have to re-classify it, but you will not be breaking any rules. The agent wants you to be as happy as possible, to keep you as a client. He probably makes the same, whether you are paying through the nose, or if you save a few hundred a year. Usually the Agent is the one giving this advice.

I still think it sounds a little high, but much more reasonable than $5,000. But since you are on your parents plan, it is about all you can do.
