im smelling gas in the oil?

i have a 95 j 30 and i was checking the oil level and i can smell gas. does anybody know why and what that means. it doesnt smoke when it runs.

Either hard or long cranking can cause gasoline to get into your oil, causing the smell. Or you can have blow-by where the piston are not sealing on the cylinder wall. Gasoline in oil is not a good sign. It dilutes oil, stripping it of its lubrication and protection properties. Get your oil and filter changed ASAP.

i changed the oil and filter and i have not driven 10 miles since. it is hard to start and doesnt run well when it is warmed up?? what do you mean "hard or long cranking"? can that be fixed?

When that happened to me I had a lower o-ring on an injector leaking.Changed the oil every other day till I fixed it.Neighbor thought I was nutz.Then I read here that after the engine is warmed up the gasoline evaporates out.Wouldn't rev it at all till completely up to temp.
