so as the title states. i just installed my rb25 i purchased the short block from JDM of miam,i put on all my IM and EM etc odds and ends but when i go to crank the motor not even a single drop of oil comes outta the hole for the feed, all ive had lately is headaches the line is a -4 but when i put the whole line off the block and leave it open theres nothing. im fearing the oil pump is done. i contacted jdm of miami and spoke to carlos he couldnt help me much as he isnt a mechanic theres nothing blocking the feed inside the hole. time to hook up a oil pressure gauge and see if i get any oil pressure at all.

please help

thanksRiley

Your going to have to do a TON of cranking to get that pump primed. Do you have oil to the top end? What your dealing with does not sound too uncommon especially since I am sure your oil filter is empty.

whats the easist way to check if top end has oil pull off the return on the side of the block?

I would crank for 10sec a few diff times and see if you have anything coming out. As far as checking for oil up top, just pull your valve cover off and see if there is oil present. Like said before, dont look for the worst...this is a common occurance

you are going to have to keep cranking, unbolt one end of the remote oil filter let it prime. you have to know it takes more cranking time to fill up all the stuff you have added. cranking oil flow is different then when the motor is running.

the motor has been turned over atleast 20 times. for ten second intervals. all that oil has to go somewhere ;p;

You have an external oil cooler? It takes a while to get that oil moving around. Especially with a system that is larger capacity.

You DID put your oil pickup tube on right?

Keep at it.

Was there something wrong with the motor that leads you to think that the pump is bad? IE it was seized up or something? I will almost bet money the pump is fine.

stop all this just start the motor man. it wont hurt it to let it run for 20 seconds without oil pressure as long as your not driving it around. i dont think u will get pressure in a system that big any other way....

and as others have said i seriously doubt the pump is bad.

pulling the plugs from the engine will help build pressure quicker.it took about 5-10 good 15 sec burst cranks for my rb20 to prime the system.

Definitely pull the plugs.

Be VERY careful to not overheat your starter doing this. I burnt out one doing this.

Anymore I don't bother priming, our engines are not old school v8's, ours build pressure immediately after firing. If you have enough assembly lube on all your parts there is no worry about hurting your bearings.

If it doesnt build pressure a few seconds after start up shut it down, check over your OIL pressure connections/wiring and go from there.

is there any risk of damaging the crankshaft bearing etc with the cranking? even if the oil pump is bad?
