Is this in place of the NAV? I would be interested in seeing. Especially if you can have full access to the main computer and information the NAV display gives you about your car.

:nono: No its not taking the place of the nav screen. I wanted to do this where you could retain everything. The nav screen is important to have.

Is it an iPad mini or iPod mini you're installing? Will it be similar to the itouch/iphone install below for both audio and video? Mine isn't mounted in the dash, so I'm curious on your plans for this. In for pics also!

I assume you meant Ipad. Either way the last video with Iphone video switch. Is there a way to go the other way around?

3 Reasons:
1: the 3 word text display and no touch screens interface on stock is bad
2: Other video apps you can npot display the iphone/ipod interface for app use and no touch screen again make it difficult driving
3: the stock screen resolution would look bad with iphone os

So my ideas:
throw in a simple double din touchscreen like pioneer avh series for $300 and you get better sound quality apps navigation through your iphone all you need right but can you then take the stock screen and its output from that place (i assume there is no HU guts behind the screen all the stereo and modules are below) and then convert that output into...
A: take the screen and maybe into a smaller one remove or relocate the center speakers from the bose center speaker area and have it recess and pop up as needed with a switch for functional things

b: same concept I have seen people on west coast make screens like holograms very simply with a mirror or something or can you find a small projector that fits in that same area and send the lcd video signal to the projector and have it display hologram in that area above the center speaker. or better yet by the driver side a pillar ares have it project the screen in the corner.

c: get a sunvisor lcd or flip down lcd where the sunglass holder is and run the signal up there.

d: if the lcd screen can be sent into a AV cable why not plug it back into the aux in of the new HU?

Basically very simple standard double din 6.1 or 7" I assume fit in that space? So real question is has anyone pulled the signal off the lcd screen into a AV/RCA/DB9 cable? if so that options are limitless just need to find a good cheap hologram projector. I have seen even a free iphone app that does hologram displays. you leave your iphone on the dash facing up and it projects onto the windshield!

I'm glad I do not own an i-anything. It would suck to have to customize everything I own & the way I behave just to conform to Steve Job's ideas.

This is not I-specific though could be any tablet?

I like to know can you replace the LCD screen with another touchscreen? If you can get a OEM replacement or aftermarket with 2 inputs. You would have it made. You could make 1 input the stock video signal for all of your current needs, then make main input your device (iphone, android USB stick, video out from any phone) A usb stick would be best since it would have drivers to use the screen

as for audio then you keep stock setup (still goes through main and in trunk bypass with a DAC like an Audiocontrol unit out to your maps for better sound yet still retain your cars sound for bluetooth-nav etc. And with the audiocontrol LC8 you can send the audio stick sound out to the DAC. Then you can switch inputs on the monitor for OEM mode or back to Tablet mode. IN OEM mode your stereo operates as normal Bluetooth nav etc and in tablet mode the DAC will still use same speakers for tablet sound and still goes through the DAC and your amp directly for even better sound then the bose crap. You can use that for all your videos, pandora etc, switch to radio on OEM if you want.

And since the DAC would be hooked up to the bose center for nav and bluetooth you still have it operate in the while the tablet was running.

Or other sound option would be get an isimple and run the tablet into the isimple as an AUX (sat) sound feed into your stock system and you retain all sound functionality and just use monitor to switch video inputs.

I thought someone had already installed an iPod into their dash? Perhaps I'm thinking of a different forum from my past.
