Ok I have a complete 95 240sx with front end damage and I just finally bought a 97 kouki shell

Q.1 can I swap all my suspension into the 97 shell.

Q.2 the 97 came with an lsd diff and it looks like just like mine on the 95

Q.3 how can I tell if my 95 is an lsd (the only way I know the 97 is the kid told me it was)

Q.4 how do I get to the door cables so I can swap the doors off the cars.

I will post pics once I get some where with it only been working on the rear for two hours thanks for any of the help I get

Yes you can swap all the suspension.

The diff looks exactly the same from the outside.

From one of the articles here, all S14's were VLSD, as I recall.

And the 95 and 97 are identical in every aspect except from ends, same generation of car so everything will easily bolt up and swap over.

Same with a 89 240 to a 93. Same generation, just different bumpers and engines, but all other parts would swap right over too.

Door cables? Do you mean the wires going into the door? You will need to take off the door panel to get into the guts of the door and see if all the wires unclip or not.

Man, I wish! VLSD was an option, even on SE's. So there exists SE's that don't have things like VLSD or ABS... like mine. I think the only thing that sets my SE apart from a base model is my 5 lug hubs, power windows/doors and sunroof.

I can't remember offhand precisely how to tell, but you're suppose to check the metal plate on your firewall that lists your car's serial number. There's a certain digit in that serial number which will indicate whether you actually have VLSD and/or ABS.

Can use a VIN decoder.

Or any factory VLSD would have ABS with it (so if the ABS controller is over on the passenger side of the firewall, then should have VLSD).

dont post stuff you dont know.

not all s14's had vlsd. very few of them did actually.

the 95-98 are NOT the same car. there are lots that are the same, but there are lots that are different

and you will not have to remove the door panels to detach the wires. just pull the wire loom from the car and the plugs will be just inside.

there was so many variations of "base" model. one of mine had everything my se had except 5 lug and a white face gauge cluster, oh and a rear sway bar. other than that the were the same. power windows (which all s14's had) power locks, sun roof, power mirrors, trunk release, cruise control, and a few other things that were the same. but i wish they both had abs :(

ok well most of the rear is done, taking longer than expected (using no air compresser or air gun lol) but pne question
the boot on axle connecting to the diff was broken on the 97 so i had to take mine off my 95 apart and it was a tri angled boot so i shaved it to fit the circle axle the question is would you guys replace before you drove it around or just use for a little while.

I didn't re read the article and I know it said something about them having them, but It must have been about the Japanese spec ones that all came with or most did at least.

I also find it funny you think the 95-98 are more different then alike. I would find it completely odd if Nissan decided to re-engineer their car every year so none of the parts carried over in that current generation. Maybe a few parts are upgraded from 95 to a 98, but the cars are the same with exception of the front end. If you're trying to tell me that if I had a 95 S14's upper control arm or something that it wouldn't fit on a 98 then please.

If it's the same platform and generation, even if the body's look different, by just a front end conversion, the mechanical parts are all going to fit.

It's like the Mazda Miata. The early models had pop-up headlights also, then they went to solid lamps style, yet the only change body wise was a new front end, the mechanical drivetrain parts would still all fit, it just received a "face-lift" just like the S14a of 97-98.

The Viper R/T 10 to the Coupe version of the same generation also. Same motor and suspension, yet it not didn't have a convertible top.

Should I go on about Generations of cars or do you get what I'm saying.
From 1997 to 1998 the 240SX S14a is commonly referred to as Kouki/kōki (後期, lit. latter period). Changes over the 1995-96 models were primarily aesthetic, including new aggressive projector headlights, front bumper, hood, fenders and revised taillights and center panel. Side skirts became standard on the SE and LE trim level. 1998 marked the end of production for the Nissan 240SX, with no further variations of the S platform released in America.
Funny huh? I also find it funny aftermarket parts normally go from 98-94 and 95-98. If your logic was right, nothing from the 95-96 models should interchange, and nothing from the 89-90 models should interchange with the 91-94 models either.

first you dont know me noob. i know more about s14's than most. second i never said that the 95-96 was more different than alike from the 97-98. maybe you should re-read what i wrote?

no im not talking about suspension. that is all the same. i know that. im talking about everything else. some interior panels, fuel pump assemblys, smog equipment, the obvious front ends, wiring, ect.

nobody f*** cares about other cars. give it up

ya thats funny. you know whats funny is that there was never an s14a produced in the states. the s14a's were stamped on the vin tag on the firewall. oh and your statement about aftermarket.. i think you meant 89-94.. even though that is not entirely true also.

Seems to me you were trying to say they were way different. Looks wise yes, mechanically no.

That is what I got out of it and how you said it.

And yes I meant 89, but typing mistakes happen to the best of us.

I mean I know the 95's would have different emission equipment since 96+ OBDII came around, but other then that. I don't see much different mechanically.

Also mechanically isn't electrical, that seems to always change with add ons and takeaways, but I would assume most of the S14 harnesses are near identical with a few exceptions.

And I used S14a as a reference to what I was talking about, not in a literal way meaning the US had them labeled that way, it's the same as these cars aren't technically a S14 in America either, since they never had the Silvia brand, yet we still call them S14's. I mean it's the chassis code, but not the actual name of the car given out.

to me that says that they are similar, yet still have a lot of differences to set them apart.
that could mean mechanically the same, aesthetically different.

i believe when he said they are not the same car, he meant that if they were the same, every single part from a 95 could replace every part on a 98 and have the same look, which is obviously not true.

ummm ya it is..

on the bottom of the ignition where it clamps to the steering column, there will be two bolts with heads that cannot be unscrewed with any wrench or screwdriver. however there are ways to get them off. the way i did it was i went and got left handed drill bits from harbor freight, and while drilling into them they unscrewed themselves. i have seen other people cut a groove in them with a cut off wheel and then use a flat head screw driver.. but yes you can switch out the ignition locks.

i believe you can get the new ignition bolts from nissan.
