Great to Finally Join one of the best informative forums out there! Was hoping to jump straight to the point with my 1992 Infiniti Q45 convered President rear end w/ JP bodykit(230k on it arleady) since it has LOTS of problems already. Unfortunately, it has a long list of issues but I hope someone will hopefully lead me to the archived forums to where I need to look to fix my car thanks alot!

1 of the main problems that is currently plaguing my car is lots of engine noise (chain issue wes talks about?) i know its not my apexi air filter (i can hear the air filter suck air in) b/c when I proceed to rev up and give it gas its a really loud whine that comes from the car... esp when i turn the wheel it gets real loud.... could also add to the leaking oil from the underside of the car & valve cover...

I think it might be a problem that also adds to my power steering pump completely going out on me... I know its the pump & have ordered 1 from a local generic autozone hopefully my car doesn't have active suspension & hicas steering... i listed it under normal steering & non-active suspension (Q45a?) but another problem is after passing 50mph the car starts to kind of rumble & shake esp when i'm @ 80mphs & it becomes really bad when i release the gas pedal theres a loud buzzing rumble as i decelerate... & the electrical wiring of my car is kind of messed up too b/c even after i close the drivers side door...

the lights still stay on inside the car and even sometimes when i drive the car the car will start randomly locking & unlocking automatically! its like a ghost in the car...

some other issues regarding wiring is also the sensor for brake pads & brake lights even though i've replaced the rear rotors & put on hawk brake pads the sensor was bypassed by the mechanic who did it... & i've changed the rear lights & they all work!!! even though the display says it doesn't...

1 last issue is my sunroof is a bit laggy & needs a bit of help as if the motor is kind of old so i give it a push or 2 once in a while and it comes along, but when it rains the car starts to leak water thru where the inside lights are ( front where you have to push to turn them on & where the controls for the sunroof are ) but sometimes when i push the sunroof down when i close it, it doesn't leak as much...

anyways I know the car has alot of miles on it & it seems its kindof been across the country... but I hope the car is still salvagable. Hoping to get to know people on the forums & get as much help as possible, this car is completely different from my past POS 240 coupe so I hope this project is easier & more hands-on so I can do most of the work myself! Hopefully, looking forward to meet more people for the bay area who are car enthusiasts & have Q's or 240s themselves! Thanks!

OK, your toes are wet. Tiime to dive in.

Start by reading all posts by Q45tech, including the links.

Download and study the FSM and TSB.

Fianlly, get a plan to restore your car functions to as new OEM standards.

Then you can start tracing the anomolies the "modifiers" commited on your car.

In short, you have a project, and there is no easy, quick and right answers. You will have to tackle one system at a time after you get your cars funcioning restored.

I would start by locating an OEM CAI for starters, after you learn you car's model. Use your VIN.

woah thanks so much for the help! im really sorry though not to sound retarded but if you could simplify what you said again!?! haha

I thought i was intelligent enough w/ computers to understand... but those acronyms are destroying my thought! so far i've been at a loss to find where to find the damn thread of how to replace a power steering pump for my car! thats the pressing issue @ hand for me...

i had gotten a generic non-hicas/non-active suspension pwr steering pump @ a local autozone down the street (AWESOME) to put in the car but have been @ a loss how to install it... im not so great w/ cars also so i was looking for a step by step process... i want to get it done myself but don't want to break anythign in the process

i've found that this car was owned & taken care of by 'Jesda' who is really famous in these forums & knows wes who knows everythign about Q's so i'm real happy to know that it has been well matained & the owner after him never horribly abused the car.... so, im just trying to get it 100% @ oem standards (hopefully you've said that @ some point down there) and then from there seeing where i can go without dreaming... & blow'n up the car!

Appreciate the help! YOU GUYS ON NICO ROCK esp WES! Thanks for the help!

Be very careful about using non-OEM systems as most are only temporary solutions and fail soon, so are also more expensive.

So check with Joe first.

Call them: http://www.infinitipartsusa.com

There is a glossary, but it is not stuck, so try a search. After a few more posts, you will pick them up. Just ask also. Reading Q45tech's posts is the cure, though.

mMm... i believe the pwr steering pump with reman in the front? so im guessing an oem autozone remanufactured pump... guessing oem?

i did search for the nearest infiniti dealers & most are a ways away from my residence so... Joe im assuming is that dude who hooks everyone up in "scottsdale" or something!?!

i tried finding Q45tech's post but DAMN you guys talk really on a DIFFERENT level its real hard to understand everyting & the acronyms are a paint in the ... but i don't want anything handed to me but this search button isn't really helping...

i was able to talk to wes on aim and he helped me alot but my problem still stands with my car that im too afrraid to drive it not fully diagnosing the problem with it... there is a gentlemen willing to help look @ my car but wes advised me to have a transmission flush asap done to my car & the earliest is wednesday done @ a transmission shop i know of... i can't tell if its the pump or not im just assuming it is b/c the power steering resivor is still filled with damn liquid & the previous owner said the lines have been swapped 7 the steering is heavy as if the damn pump is fried...

i have no luck with finding the FSM & manuals for the 92 Q's i just need to be pointed in the right direction & ill roll the Q into the garage jack it up & get crack'n i wish i was more mechanically inclined like all the other new Q owners here with cameras & experience & such but i just have to make do so if you could help a distressed college student pointed in the right direction to install a $200 pwr steering pump I'D REALLY appreciate it! REALLY!!!

niCO dudeZ are off the chain, THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!

Your searching abilities are quite evident... I think you have resurrected every P/S post in existance!

There is a library here somewhere with the .pdf FSMs, but for whatever reason I can never find it! If phatg20 is down again, that's your best option for getting one other than just paying for the $20 one day subscription at http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti

You definitely need the FSM before digging in to replacing that pump.

That said, it's relatively rare for the pump to fail. I think you should get a mechanic's sthescope like this to track down your engine noise you mentioned when turning the wheel to the stop. It is more likely a tensioner than the pump...

When you have the one day subscription, get the TSB also.

All manuals in Acrobat format are 1994 and later. You must adjust by reading previous posts by Q45tech.

An imported luxury V8 is not the car for a cash strapped college student. Everytime you get parts or labor, it is still a $48K (in 1992 dollars) car.
