i plan on puttin airbags as soon as i get home, and im goin to paint it and rims and all that good stuff, and im goin to try to put audio system in it as well, i want to take out the bench seat it has currently and put bucket seats and put and bass tube or make a speaker box for a Kicker L-7 10" im not sure yet, but i was just wondering if anyone had any experience working on these trucks and doin any kind of modification to the inside as well as the outside????

If it's a regular cab and you want bucket seats, the buckets from a king cab are a bolt in. You just gotta cut a couple holes in the carpet.

Bad news on the bass tube though...there's no room for one in a reg cab.

Yes, there would be space there. When I did this in my regular cab Frontier, I put in the king cab console, so I lost that space too, but if you don't put in the console, you're right - you do have the space between the seats.

I'm a 4x4 guy, so the street truck thing is pretty foreign to me.

airbags are great but i don't think they make a "bolt-on" kit for a hardbody (could be wrong)

which means lots of fab work for you most likely. also, it depends on how low you want to go. i mean if you want to lay frame, you'll have to notch the rear, etc.

I used to dabble in D21's and almost did a slammed one a few years back. Purchase a copy of 'Sport Truck' and 'Mini Truckin' magazines (they are the better known magazines for the stuff you want.)

Most of the air bag kits have plates you would need to weld to the UCA/LCA. Air Bags come in a variety of styles. You might even be able to purchase a completely new prefabbed upper/lower control arms assembly with the bag plates built into them.

The rear diff would require a fair amount of work if you intend on slammin' it on the frame rails. Things like a 'C' Notch which means the frame must be cut and the Notch welded back in requires the right tools and knowledge to do it right.

A popular way to bag the rear suspension is to go remove the leafs and put bags between te spring perches and the frame then use a 4-link setup to keep the axle tubes in line with everthing.

How much research have you done to date? I don't want to sound too preachy if you have some basic knowldge already.

INFO/ARTICLE AIR SUSPENSION ON A D21. IT'S A GOOD READ!!

well i havent done too much research ive had the truck for about a year but ive been deployed and now that im back im about to get into all the depths and knowledge of the truck, but i plan on taking it to a shop and let them install the bags and do all the work, im just tryin to get some ideas and see what all kind of work its gonna take, do u think if i drop the truck at a shop it could be done in a day or about how long u think it would take to have my truck back and be draggin asphalt around town??

A proper bag suspension can't be done in a day unless you have whole 'platoon' doing it. I couldn't resist.

A proper install with C-Notch can be done in about a week or less. And this applies only to a shop that has done them before. The best thing you can do is go armed with a basic plan.

Do want a 100% streetable ride?

Do you want to be able to take it on long drives?

Is it going to be a show piece?

If you C-Notch the frame you usually end up having to cut a hole on the box to accomodate the differential and all it's air bag stuff.

Do your research and ask to see pictures of the stuff a shop created. I have seen some great systems and I have seen some total junk that would put your life at risk. ( really bad designs and even worse welding)

I did find these shops around Texas but I can't speak on their reputation so you will need to call the ones that interest you.
